Rude Awakening

[Bruce remembers falling asleep on the couch in his lab. He is now in a rather fancy bedroom. Granted, Tony tends to go for opulent and personal comfort, but this isn't Bruce's room at Stark tower. Fortunately, he fell asleep with his glasses on, so when he finds the journal lying open nearby, he can easily read the writing as it forms on the pages.]

Okay, that's a neat trick.

[He starts as his own words appear in the journal. Flipping through the journal, he sees there are patterns, obvious conversations and communications.]

Ah, but they do leave behind notes. Or at least some of them do.

[She has a shelf full of reading material given to her by other residents, including research notes.]

If we have the notes of someone who left successfully, we should be able to reproduce the results.

I haven't come across anything like that yet. There are a good number of notes on the castle's previous behavior and discoveries past the Dead Zone though. Most are even public.

I haven't been to the City yet. I guess I should put that on my list.

It's worth a visit. The local architecture is still pretty banged up from a recent earthquake we've had, but the city's recovering.

Are the natives friendly to the castle residents or do they prefer to stay separate?

They're friendly, if a bit odd. You shouldn't have any trouble.

They won't talk much about details of this world. It's possible they can't Their memory seems... kinda fuzzy. They can remember events that happen, but they talk about them like long past history when it only occurred a month ago.

Are they human? If not, they might experience time differently than humans do.

They seem to be, though looks aren't everything. The difference in viewing time is more likely caused by the castle or cultural perception.

Those are the most likely causes, of course, but not the only ones.

No, of course not. Naturally there are other possiblities. We won't know unless we find the answers.

True. From what I understand, this place is pretty good at keeping its secrets.

Very good. I have a friend who tried to pry too deeply and got hurt for her efforts.

For what? You weren't there. I wasn't even around at the time.

[Bruce is both amused and perplexed by her statement.]

That...I meant I'm sorry as in an expression of sympathy and understanding, not as an admission of guilt.

I know that. [She sighs, a little frustrated.] Don't worry about it. She's fine now.
