[A little while later, the rest of you get treated to the annual "kid got his hands on the journal/notebooks were mixed up" event. The following is written out slowly and with great care, accompanied by a small voice humming a distinctly elvish tune.]



[And if he seems pretty advanced for his age, it's that elvish blood showing through. And, yes, mommy is rather pleased with that. If he's so smart he's creepy, then he's just that much more like her, okay?]

[Oh gosh! That looks cool. Mom needs to stop hogging the journal. There's a little insistent whine before markings start appearing around the puzzles. He's not quite up to anything too complex, but he's making progress with the simpler ones.]

[Galadriel may be silently judging in the background, but Finrod is oblivious to the drunkenness. THE HAPPY LADY WANTS HIM TO HUM LOUDER, this is cool.]

I could sing if you'd like, my lady. [That is one very excited tiny voice.]

[ She doesn't even know...who the heck this is, okay. Except someone named Finrod maybe. ]

Yes! Sing! Your voice carries such beauty.

I was planning today to stare balefully into the abyss and wait for my reckoning.

But I can push it back.

[ Hints appear beside a few of the more complicated ones. ]

[Well...she's right! A very clever little someone named Finrod. And he's his mother's talent for singing, apparently, and already memorized a few of the simpler elvish songs.]

[After listening a bit to get a feel of the tune, Will begins to lightly hum along.]

[ She actually shuts up long enough to listen, so pretty. ]

[Oh! That's cool! The humming changes a little, the tune altered just slightly- mostly to see if Will will pick it up.]

[Oh hello. What is this elvish writing? Between Galadriel's notes, her own personal studies, and the Speech-granted wizard's ear, she can make out the general meaning.

Pulling out Spot, she pulls up a more recent search: Middle Earthian elvish. After picking what looks like the safest choice of dialects, Dairine carefully begins speaking.]

Suil, Finrod. I enethen Dairine.

[lightbranded]

[He does, and shifts over to a harmonization with the new tune.]

[With a hint of amusement:] We thank you for your generosity.

[There's a soft little 'ah' and, slowly but surely, a few more additions are made.]

[Well, it's good someone in the conversation will shut up, because Finrod sure won't. Almost immediately afterwards he's piping up again, this time clamoring for approval from someone in the room with him.]

Did I sing it well, Nana? Did I?

[And it's a familiar voice that answers after a deep chuckle.] You sang beautifully, ioneg. You do your namesake proud.

[And then back to the journal- because you can never have too much attention.] Did you like it, my lady?

[There's a small little laugh and finally a tiny voice speaks up.] You're fun.

Don't mention it. [ Really. Don't. ]

[Well, that and the fact that it's a pretty standard little kid practice: writing his own name every way he knows how.

The response she gets is very polite, if obviously rehearsed. Someone's mommy has made sure that he knows his manners.]

[And then a little more naturally and switching back to Common. Where did you learn Sindarin?

[ A pause, and then the sound of a very soft clap. ]

Quite so! I am certain your voice will only grow more beautiful in time.

Am I? [The good humor is obvious in Will's voice.]

[Don't worry, she won't. Wouldn't want people thinking that she actually likes you or anything.]

Shall we make our way to your quarters, then? [Or do you hang out some other place?]

[inafadingcrown]

Yes! You play along. [Galadriel chuckles in the background and moves forward to add her two cents.] It seems mother and child have similar taste in companions.

Thank you! [There is beaming over here, for sure. Galadriel takes control over the journal for a moment to add (out of Finrod's hearing)]

Thank you for humoring him, my lady. It means a great deal to him.

[Well, if he's switching to Common, she'll switch to Wizard's Speech. Of course, it might not sound that different; the Speech sounds like whatever the listener's native language is, just with richer undertones.]
