Babies and Ponies [ action + dictation ]
[ Vanyel decided that taking Luke outside was probably a good idea. He had less things to magic that way. It was not a major problem, not yet, and Vanyel thanked all the heavens for that. He was taking the time today to introduce Luke to Yfandes, who had taken to the child immediately, if not really been able to help on the magic front. Vanyel had suspected as much, given the nature of Companions and he almost wished Yfandes had dropped a foal the previous year that might have been ready to bond Luke...
Well, nothing for it now. He was walking near the edges of the garden, Luke on Yfandes' back, squealing loudly in delight as he 'rode' the mare. Vanyel had complete faith in Yfandes - he would not let his child fall, though he was there beside them the entire time, quietly encouraging his son and just glad that nothing had gone magically wrong for the past few hours. There was mercy yet to be had from the gods...
Luke occupied and relatively safe, he opened the journal, sitting down on a nearby bench as Yfandes walked in a small circle bare feet away.]
Ah, I suppose I should say this whilst I have the chance.
To anyone who has had things gone missing or moved oddly, well, I think it might have been Luke. He does not mean it, only it seems Duke's and my magic have crossed in him and a different breed of magic. It is relatively harmless, but in odd moments it seems to flare.
Daddy! See! Horsey!
Haha, yes, Luke, I see you. Doing wonderful!
If anyone has had something go missing, let me know. I have the Fetching gift, and if giving ample discription, I should be able to return the object without to much issue.
[ And with that he lays the journal aside in order to rise and go to his son, squirming on Yfandes' back, asking to get down so he can feed the horsey. ]

[The voice of the boy can be heard before he's seen, running up towards where Yfandes was, feet trailing sand after having evidently left a sandbox in a hurry. A harried but smiling Felix follows soon thereafter]
Careful.
no subject
[ Vanyel looked up as the boy came running over, the red hair no doubt meaning only one thing. He glanced back at Felix, not concerned as Yfandes stilled and lowered her head to meet the young red head. ]
Yours, I take it?
no subject
But of course.
[Ryuga giggled in delight and petted her nose]
no subject
[ Yfandes snorted, letting the boy pet, nuzzling tiny hands and swishing her tail, Luke on her back starting to realize that she was not moving and looked down at Ryuga with a pout. ]
Hey, my pony!
[ Vanyel sighed. ]
Ah, here we go then...
no subject
[Felix went to stand next to Vanyel]
Should I be worried?
no subject
Well, you see, Luke is... quite magical. He hasn't done anything to harmful, but frankly neither Duke nor I can fathom his possibilities either.
Luke, you share Yfandes with... with...
[ He glanced at Felix, mortified. ]
What is your son's name?
no subject
[He raised a brow]
You're with Duke?
no subject
So it would seem.
[ He nodded, resisting the urge to blush, not that anything had really happened. Duke was a... nester for lack of a better term, when it came to sleeping, and Vanyel was not about to start sexual relations simply because the Castle saw fit to give them a child. ]
Luke is the result, according to the Castle. He's got a mischievous streak in him for sure.
no subject
But he's manifested magic already?
no subject
Not on purpose? It comes in spurts and fits and from what I can tell is connected to strong surges of emotion - be they joy or anger. I would say he has a strong Fetching gift, which seems to be most prevalent. It's happened rarely, at least, but I can sense it in him, buried, waiting for the right time to surge forth...

[He breaks off at Ryuga, gigglig, tries to reach up and grab at Yfandes' ear]
no subject
Ah, it is a Gift in my world - the ability to transport things over distances. It won't work on living things, but inanimate objects are fine, depending on the size. The stronger the Gift, the further you can send and the bigger as well.

no subject
Frankly, no. It usually appears after a child has reached puberty, or is otherwise forced to life through circumstances.

He said such a power was unusual, but I don't think he knew really what to do about it when he sensed it - it's like his magic, but not, a mix of both of ours. That might explain why it is manifesting so early.
no subject
Wanna ride the horsey!
no subject
[ Vanyel looked over and there was a moment of silent communication before returning his gaze to Felix. ]
Are you all right with letting him ride Yfandes? She can carry the two easily, and she won't startle or do anything unexpected like a normal horse.
no subject
no subject
Luke will share.
[He pitched his voice to carry to his son, who let out a disgruntled whine, but seemed to know fighting it was useless and said a mumbled 'fine' as if he was suddenly being the most magnanimous of children. ]
no subject
Hold onto Luke and keep your knees together.
[He demonstrated by presses Ryuga's knees against Yfandes' sides]
no subject
[ Vanyel chuckled, stepping back and letting Yfandes begin a slow walk in a large circle, the mare placid despite anything the boys did on her back, stepping lightly. ]
Do you have a real child back home, Felix?
no subject
no subject
You just seem... at ease with yours.
[ He shrugged, watching the two children ride the sparkling white mare around in a circle, Yfandes being as patient as could be, which he would very much need to thank her for later. ]

no subject
No, I dare say we don't. I never imagined I would have one that I would actually claim as my own....
no subject
no subject
Yes. Back home I have, technically, fathered four children, but it was always in the aid of others. I have never claimed to be parent to any of them.

[ his brow puckered, puzzled by the term. ]
Janus? What does that mean?

Oh, no, I strictly enjoy men. It is only - female friends of mine wishes for children and knew how to make sure they conceived the first time. One to a healer I knew, another to one of the Taleydras - twins, for her, the daughter for her and the son for my teachers - and another to a pair of guards I was friends with.
no subject
It doesn't bother you at all?
no subject
I cannot say I found it the most pleasant of experiences, but these are good friends of mine, and I was able to help them, so I did. It is not as if I had to do it many times over to assure my seed took - it was the once, for passing minutes. I got them pregnant, I did not make love to them.

No, two women were Healers and the other had Healer prescribed herbs. The combination was enough to ensure fertility and that the process need not be repeated. If it eases your mind, my... aid was required several years apart.

I know it is not something someone of our persuasion would do, but.. I cared for these people. They wished the joy of a child, and they turned to me to help provide. It spoke of their trust in me and their love. How could I deny them?

[ Vanyel chuffed and shook his head, Yfandes neighing as the boys wriggled on her back, coming to a halt to let them sort themselves before continuing on with the ride. ]
I am not sure I would call it altruism, but it seems the best word that comes to mind at the moment.
no subject
I noticed that Clow isn't...back yet.
no subject
[ He stiffened and nodded. ]
No, he's... not.
[ Clearly it was not a happy subject for him, but Vanyel was good at not dealing with certain subjects. ]
no subject
I'm sorry. It's just...unusual.
no subject
I know. A part of me hopes it means he's home and he's fine, but... well... this place doesn't always inspire hope.
