Daddy, can we play more?

Give Daddy a few minutes to finish in the journal and we can play all you want, Carter.

Nothing quite like this week to give a good chance to relax after everything that's happened recently. Or at least, giv3e you stress in entirely different wants, in the form of parenthood.

Any other single parents that want a playmate for their kid and a possible break? Let me know. Without his mother, Carter can be a handful, though it's my second time alone with him.

Though... It's a good reminder of a friend that's gone now.

Who was she?

Not to pry or anything, just curious.

She was a Spartan that's not here anymore. Her name was Kat... A member of Noble Team that died on Reach.

We were close for a while. The castle loved throwing us together.

Like giving you two a kid...

There were pictures in his room of a happy kid and a family. I'm his father there, even if I haven't experienced it.

She really was an amazing person. I was lucky to meet her here.

[He's not sure if that's comforting or not. The idea that there's some parallel world where he's living a life that doesn't totally suck. Where he has a kid.]

When your kid has shown up multiple times? Trust me, it does help. Maybe you'll be lucky enough to get that chance.

Something tells me you'd rather have him year-round. [York's the same and while he and Wash weren't anywhere near identical, personality-wise, wanting kids and a future wasn't exactly unique to any one person.]

I'm not doing bad at any rate. Carter is happy.

[It's actually a little odd to not hear the anger she'd heard for months when she'd first arrived here. She pauses for a moment before hissing back,] No, I don't.

[Part of her is ready to get defensive again, but when she pauses to think about it for two seconds, she at least realizes she has nothing to distrust him for. Other than being a friend of York's.]

Yes, it has, Carolina. Not much at Freelancer... But this place has taught me different.

This place isn't any different from Freelancer. [Well minus everything being a giant clusterfuck.]
