[Filtered to anyone who cares about the whole Legato debacle]

The outpost in the dead zone is still intact, just saying, and I will remind everyone in general that the doors do lock. We could just stick Legato out there for a while and make sure he didn't get back into the castle zone. No powers, no forcing townspeople to kill each other and themselves. Of course the risk to him would be vengeance-seekers and he might attempt suicide, but it's a possibility.

[And of course, if Legato attempts suicide, it might be doing them all a favor.]

I don't think that someone... like him [ and what he may have done, because he sounds scary ] should be walking into the town when he's hurt people before there. That's not fair to them. [ And residents, but that goes without saying. ]

Why are you saying such things?

I agree, but that seems to be what Zelman thinks should happen. So what should we do with him? What's our next-best option? Where can he possibly be safest? There's people with grudges against him and the possibility of suicide here too, he'd just come back, and even that isn't one hundred percent guaranteed. [She sounds frustrated, but she takes a deep breath. She doesn't want to have a fight with Uru.]

He's been in there since summer and we still don't have two good ideas to rub together about what should be done with him. Discussions about what ought to be done with him go round and round with everyone being squeamish. I'm so tired of this and the suggestion that we should just let him roam with a minder otherwise makes me sick.

But... I don't think anyone was agreeing to that. [ As far as she's seen. ] And I think it's unfair to get mad at everyone when it was one person who said that.

[ Also stunned Zelman said all that BUT SHE DOESN'T REALLY KNOW HIM... whoops. ]

Did he not have a trial?

We can't come to a consensus. I'm so sick of it. The longer we argue the longer he just stays where he is. I'm sure Zelman's right that he's fomenting down there but hell if I'll agree to let him out. And if he's in the dead zone, he doesn't need a powered person minding him. How many people do we have who could keep an eye on him competently? What if he teamed up with Joshua or someone to take them out? What if he teamed up with Zelman? Zelman used to be his master and hell if I'll believe he isn't seeing the potential benefits this could bring to him. But he's probably right that the longer Legato stays down there the worse he gets.

I don't think any of them had trials but he was obviously involved. What would a trial have done?

So if he's there, it bothers you... but if he's out it bothers you. Though that part is understandable... But isn't that a problem? There will be no one to really watch him in the Dead Zone, but at least in the castle there's over a hundred people.

It's a start. Then that would have at least a proper decision on how to deal with him. [ Or something like it. Harvey and Two-Face were evaluated at the same time back when we had his trial. That one worked out okay for the most part. ]

... Right?

People can take shifts out in the dead zone to keep watch over him. It's not as if they don't have a place to live. No one will have to live with him constantly if they don't want but people can make it a group effort and no one will get worn down. We don't need a hundred people if we can see everything he's doing and keep tabs on him.

Anyway, I don't know about how trials work anyway, really. So I don't know.

[ A long pause, gazing at her journal. Everything feels wrong. ]

... You've been different lately, Rin.

[... After a moment she filters. She sounds a lot more upset when she speaks again.]

I'm so tired of nothing being able to be accomplished.

If Legato goes out to the dead zone, I'll help watch over him. But if he gets let out here I'll go to the dead zone anyway for a while.

The Peace Patrol really is a mess, huh. But that doesn't mean everything is the same.

You shouldn't go out there, Rin. You shouldn't be alone. Nothing's set in stone yet!

If he gets let out I'm going. I don't want to be surprised by him. You know he'd be stalking around town, and the castle... and with his powers...

The outposts got blown up for no fucking reason and the first gens ran off into the sunset without even a scratch. We still don't know what makes the castle work or how Libet relates to it, we have no solid answers. Almost all of the horrible monsters who caused so much trouble this summer have gone home now and nothing was ever decided to be done with them and now the last one of them, the last most dangerous, is at a boiling point down there and we still don't really know what to do. I'm really, really tired of it. It was such a relief to not remember anything and have no idea that I'd even have things to think or want to say about all of this...

[ Her voice is softer: ]

So stay with me, or someone strong. [ Preferably someone strong. ] You can have my room in the tower if that happens. Steph is right next door. Nobody is going to let you get hurt again by him, I'm sure of it.

You know, I wonder if the reason the Peace Patrol can't get things done right now is because nobody is willing to forgive them for what happened.

[ A pause, as she considers this. ]

So I think we need to start putting a little bit of faith in them, otherwise how can they believe in their own decisions?

But... Rin, I really am sorry. I wish I had known soo-- [ Wait. ]

[ Awkwardly stares at that last part. ]

But then you would have no memories of... [ Her friends? Does this mean Rin would really want those memories gone? ]

I'm so sorry, Uru. [What is she even apologizing for? Everything in general.]

I'm still staying with Galadriel right now... but if he just gets let out I will leave. But for me I believe this is the best way to provide him with more mobility and still not put other people at risk. I'm going to keep pushing for it.

[ A long pause. ]

You're going to hurt yourself even more, Rin.

I don't know what else to do.

I don't understand. I know you're carrying a heavy sadness. I see it every time we talk -- but you don't try to lean on others. You aren't trying to find happiness this way!

I don't want to burden others with anything that's happened to me - there's nothing they can do to solve things now, or here, it's... it would just make other people unhappy. What good would that do?

... I don't believe that. I'm... I'm sorry, I have to go.

[ She closes the journal. ]

[Shit. No good - Rin dwells over her last remark for a long moment and then tries to put it out of her head. She'll try and talk to Uru again later.]
