Thirty Two Truffula Trees

[The Once-ler sounds a lot more chipper than he did when he last used the journals. He's been wandering around, taking in the sights and sounds and smells of this new place]

So another trip to Earth, huh? It's like Paradia's favourite vacation spot. There's something I've been wondering since we visited that Sandyaygo place, me and Ted noticed it and it's pretty weird to us. What's with your buildings? Why are they so plain and boring?

[Even if they can't see him, he waves at a nearby building]

I mean, there are no doors on the second floor just leading out into space. No fancy outside staircases joining windows on different floors, no ledges that go nowhere. You guys do know there are shapes other than squares and rectangles, right? Where's your sense of imagination and fun?

[Someone got off his loss a little early. He sounds a little annoyed and weak when he speaks up.]

Why would you even put a door like that on the second floor?
ino: (Hint hint wink wink nudge nudge~)

My guess would be most builders don't want their buildings collapsing or people falling out of them.
ino: (Hair tuck.)

They're also following the law. There are these things called building codes, you know.
whistles_the_blues: (You turn and see them in sand.)

...In a matter of speaking, yes.

[Being a human sucks, man.]

Humans do something like that here, except they have something to step out on called a balcony.
ino: (Better vision.)

Well, it's not necessarily how to make it. There are just certain safety requirements. Like making sure there's enough ways to get out of the building so you don't get trapped in there.
ino: (Blah blah blah.)

[personal profile] ino 2013-07-17 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Not if it just goes out into nothing! Then you fall down and break your legs.

Save it for when it actually stops.

[There's a bit of laugh at that, but it's cut short by a coughing fit.]

Right, I forgot you liked to live on the edge.

Well, there's one house I know of that's kind of like that.

You should see Hogwarts. That building has moving staircases and hidden doorways everywhere.
whistles_the_blues: (Not knowing where to begin.)

Just adjusting, never been human before.

[He sighs before he goes on to say.]

I've been locked in a clinic since this change happened.

I've heard a lot of different stories but basically there was this rich woman who kind of went crazy after her family died and she went to see a fortune teller who told her she should build a new house and never stop, so that the evil spirits that killed her family would never get her. So there's like, doorways that open up into nothing, and staircases that lead nowhere, and secret doors inside cabinets and things like that.

Or you could avoid both of those things by adding a fire escape.

Confusing and awesome are two very good words to describe Hogwarts.

...You make a good point. Why do we just stick to squares and rectangles when there's plenty of other shapes?
cyan_maid: (I really don't...)

[personal profile] cyan_maid 2013-07-18 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Er...I don't think things like that would serve much of a functional purpose, then.
