Perhaps as something indicating irritation at the castle for taking away....
[ He sort of trailed of there, muttering that at the end. ]
... Are there those without magic, or who do not believe in such things, who would be willing to aid me in testing something? Those with magic would be welcome as well, but the focus of this would be greatly reliant on those without magic of belief.
[ And no, he's not going to explain what he wants some non-magical person or person who doesn't believe in magic to do for him. ]
If anyone is interested, I am out.... around the side with the pool. If there is any need for help in locating me, I have white hair.
[ And he is sitting out there, in the shade, with a basket of covered lumps. ]

Of a sort, yes.

[ Where would the rest of the person go, if he turned them into a frog? Wouldn't that barely be half-a-hand worth of person-weight to make frog. ]
I heal, and do a variety of things with elements.

Does it count if you think there's no such thing as magic but that there is actually a scientific explanation for everything, even if nobody understands what it is yet?

[Welp, that settles it for her. She'll be trooping out there. She moves surprisingly quietly, but she's lived in Para long enough to know or suspect that you can't see her, though you might have heard the sounds of her boots as she walked up. Still. Speaking to people you've only glimpsed here and there is polite.]
Hi.

[ He is unable to see her, the way he sort of stares in slightly the wrong spot, but he is turned toward her.
Although by the pause he's still terrible at talking. ]
You are...?

So Duke just turns his head slightly toward these steps. He heard you, and he isn't scrunched up in an attempt to make himself look closed off for conversation.
But he won't say anything either. ]

You the one looking for volunteers?

Yes.

What did you have in mind?

[ Duke reaches over and picks up his basket. Inside are some spheres, with a bit of a faint glow and something that looks like lettering around them. ]
Toss one away, hard enough to break....
[ He offers the basket in the right direction. There's a few colors - blue, green, pale gold, deep purple, and light purple. Look a bit like crystal, or glass. ]
And see what happens.

Doesn't seem too hard.
[He'll toss it with a fair bit of robotic might to the other side of the pool.]

[ As much as he is for experimenting with magic, as we all know it can go nastily wrong and he would rather avoid any of them ending up in the infirmary for any period of time again. ]

It was an idea that someone had worked on, home, but this way is less visible intimidation factor.
[ Duke that isn't answering Vanyel's question. ]
Re: dictated;
All right, that tells me where you got the idea, not what it is.
[ He's getting used to your odd speech pattern Duke, but nice try. ]

[ So he's getting non-magical, or non-believing in magic-people to test it for him. ]
Re: dictated; - filtered to Vanyel
I see. You are trying to test if stored spells will work for those without magic.
[ That could prove useful, and also very dangerous. ]

[ He's hoping for worldchanges being less hazardous when they were dangerous, if that's the case. Worst case it goes fizzle... ]
Re: dictated; - filtered to Vanyel
Possibly... but what if the world changes are like the Dead Zone? Anything and everything magical is nullified?
