[To appease his curiosity, Thorin opens the book and finds not only his name, but the words he spoke not seconds ago written inside.]

[He tilts a brow and observes his surroundings - seems to be a lobby of some sort. Dwarves don't typically live in castles, so he knows this is not the work of his kind - and his kind would never demand the sacrifice that this castle did.]

I'm not sure about your world, but in mine I'm sure that elves can't do this.

Yes, elves exist in my world, Aselia. They... mostly keep to themselves. [To the point that they blow off everybody and anybody who is not an elf, but there you go.]

Let me ask you this then: If the Elves keep to themselves, are there other creatures of intelligence that wander your land?

Summon spirits? What in Durin's name are those?

[Is it like some wizardry, he wonders? Could Gandalf possibly summon spirits? He summoned eagles easily enough...though that took a bit too much time for Thorin's comfort...]

They're like embodiments of a particular element. Like water, fire, wind, earth... They'e sentient, and a summoner can make a pact with them and summon them in battle.
