...from the make of this place, I'd say this is Elf sorcery...

[To appease his curiosity, Thorin opens the book and finds not only his name, but the words he spoke not seconds ago written inside.]

...definitely Elf devilry.

[He tilts a brow and observes his surroundings - seems to be a lobby of some sort. Dwarves don't typically live in castles, so he knows this is not the work of his kind - and his kind would never demand the sacrifice that this castle did.]

In much the same manner as you, I would assume. I found myself here, through no choice of my own.

[Thorin nods, crossing his arms and glancing away for a moment, contemplating if he should ask this next question or not.]

Did it take something from you, as well?

[He's a little touchy about having his stuff taken from him...]

The term was coined long before my arrival here. [She really doesn't care what they call it. She just resents that there's a need for the term at all.]

[Surprisingly! Even more surprisingly is the fact that he's sort of apologizing for the misunderstanding...Thorin's growing up!!]

[She gives another little nod.] I should tell you also that this place is known to alter those it has brought here according to its whims.

So I've heard. What experiences have you had with this?

[He's curious, and trying to collect as much information as possible.]

I have been spared the worst of it, thankfully. Yet I did experience a return to my youth, if you will, and there have been times when all the residents of the castle were made human.

[Thorin staggers for a moment; reverting to a younger age does not bother him, but becoming Human? No, he couldn't deal with that.]

What?? Human? Ridiculous!! How is one meant to deal with such punishments?

One endures. There is little else that may be done. [Believe her, Thorin, she's not crazy about it either.]

[Thorin crosses his arms before his chest and mutters something in Khuzdul, something to the effect of "I guess you're right" - which he would never say in the common tongue, lest word spread that he agreed with an Elf.]

So what mischief does an Elf make to find amusement in this place?

[A more polite version of this question would be "What do you do for fun?"]

I do not make any sort of mischief and I will thank you not to imply otherwise.

Fine. What do you do to amuse yourself here?

[He's obviously not trilled about having to change his wording, but that's what he gets for being a jerkface.]

When I have time to spare, I have been known to make use of the music room. The gardens are pleasant also, when it is warm enough to make a visit worthwhile. But I must say that I have found my greatest joys in speaking with the others trapped here and learning of them and their worlds.

Music room? Aye, I could go for some fiddle playing about now...

And I must admit I am rather impressed with some of the stories I hear of other residents and their worlds.

I am skeptical of most things, Thorin Oakenshield. Suffice it to say that I believe the castle has purposes of its own- purposes that none of us yet fully understand.

Seems rather obvious...but then again I'm suspicious of a castle that can do things on a whim...

Inanimate objects should not be capable of such things...
