Halloween doings

[Early in the evening on Halloween, Bruce emerges from his room...decked out in the full military dress uniform of the United States Army! He donned the costume reluctantly, but well...it was Halloween and he doesn't feel like fighting the castle on such a small issue. He heads for the ballroom, intending to force himself to socialize and mingle. Besides, if anything goes wrong, he wants to be where he can help.]

[Have a Doctor, quite literally, for he's dressed in scrubs and a lab coat with a handy dandy stethoscope draped around his neck, coming the other way into Bruce's path. The Doctor moves left, right, left again...]

Ah, pardon me, so sorry. [And then he takes a good look at the man and his outfit...] Let me guess. The castle did it.

[Bruce smiles ruefully, as he fails to get out of the Doctor's way.]

Yeah, I'm afraid it is. I've never felt such a strong urge to stand up straight, before. Are you actually a doctor?

The clothes make the man so they say.

[That's a very good question, Bruce.] Yes. But also no. Except in a pinch. Or on clinic hours. Don't believe the name tag, that is definitely not my name. [Dr. McLovely it says, by the way. Yep.]

I suppose so. I've never paid that much attention.

[Bruce just grins.] Well, at least you're helpful. Um. What's your actual name? I'm Bruce Banner.

[With a wry tone,] Well, I do like to be helpful.

Ah, I'm pleased to run into you then, Bruce. I'm-- [Pause. Pause. Hmm.] You're either going to laugh or not believe me. I'm the Doctor.

It's good to meet you. You're...the Doctor? No last name with that?

I'm afraid not, just the Doctor. The castle has a sense of humour where I'm concerned it seems. And as for yourself, pardon me, but you don't quite seem the service man type.

I can see that. It's humor is as questionable as everything else about it.

[He laughs.]

No, I'm definitely not a military type. This is further evidence that the castle is not a good comedian. I've...had my differences with the American military establishment.

Quite. Rather like a poor opening act before the main show. Although given where we are, I think I'll skip the main show.

Ah. Yes. Say no more. [He pauses a moment, thinking.] Banner. Banner. Have I seen your name on the clinic roster?

Yes, I help out there and use the lab at times. I'm a physicist and, well, I'm interested in just about any branch of science, really.

[Bruce said magic words.] You are? But that's marvellous! Do you have a particular field in physics? The sciences are a bit of a passion of mine and you can't beat a good scientist. Where are you from? American I'd say, twentieth, twenty-first century?

Um. Yes, as a matter of fact. I'm from New York in 2013. I'm a nuclear physicist, mainly, though I've studied the other branches, of course. You serve at the clinic, you said. What type of scientist are you?

[Broooaaad grin. ] Excellent! 2013, look at you! New York, so good they named it twice.

I did, yes. Since Dr. Keller's last recruitment drive. Well, I guess you could say my specialty is in temporal physics, but I dabble in most others and picked up a thing or two. Do you know, it's refreshing to come across someone learned in the field these days.

Um, thanks. Temporal physics...you mean, time travel? What year are you from...originally?

[Bruce is fascinated. There is a certain appeal to the idea of time travel, if only because, on the surface, it seems so impossible.]

[His eyes glint, warming very much to the topic, if Bruce has not been able to tell already.] That's right. To put it under a broad term.

Ah, what year am I from, now that is an interesting question. Earth years are a bit tricky. I'm not actually from any 'one' year. I'm not from Earth at all.

Really? You sound English, no offense. [He gives a rueful grin.] Where are you from?

[The Doctor laughs at that.] I wouldn't let them hear you say that. I have spent rather a lot of time in England over the years. I'm from a planet called Gallifrey. Quite a bit away from Sol 3 - Earth - I'm afraid.

You know, I must apologise. I'm keeping you here talking and it looked as though you were on your way somewhere. I believe the castle is putting on a dance of some sort. I thought I'd pop in for a minute or two.

Yeah, I'm heading that way, though...talking with a fellow scientist is much more my speed than dancing. [Bruce gives a rueful grin.] I'm not much for balls and parties, really.

Oh, I don't know, I like a good party myself, usually. Although I can't admit to being too keen on tonight's if I am perfectly honest.

[He looks a Bruce and tilts his head. One of his fingers point up, indicating the next floor above.]

Pub? I have time for an orange juice if you'd like to join me before I'm on call. Er, I mean, before saying hello at the party. I have no idea where that came from, excuse me.

Sure, I'd love to. Orange juice sounds good. I don't parties with friends, but mingling comfortably with strangers...isn't really in my skill set.
