seventeen truffula stumps

[The Lorax has been pretty quiet lately. He's just been going about his business as a guardian. Anyone who's ever around where the tree is has probably seen him watering and talking to it. It's his job, after all. Especially since the kid left.

Today though, a few shaky doodles of these things appear in the journal. They look like a five-year-old drew them but hey, he's never been an artist. Just trying to make a point. After three or four scribbles, he speaks quietly.]

What do you think makes these special? [pen tap on the journal for emphasis]

It's about six or seven hours later (probably when the poor Lorax is sleeping) that he deigns to reply.]

Is 'everything' a valid answer?

[Grumbling noises over the journal as he fumbles around for it.]

I don't suppose the answer would be, "the variety of shapes and colors that they come in"?

[He's... not really sure what he's looking at, entirely.]

There isn't one specific answer I'm looking for, so I'd say those are pretty special qualities. Do you see those colors in nature often?

Well, I can't say that I see purple often, but the others are common enough.

What about pink?

I guess pink is pretty rare, too. Outside of springtime, at least.

The only time you see any of those colors is on flowers anyways.

They are... trees, are they not?

Well, they are trees. Are they part of a religion in your world?

Not really. I just watch over them.

That must make them important then. For awhile I lived among people who valued trees highly too.

Everyone should value them highly, if ya ask me.

Oh? Why is that?

_{[ Medieval society, trees don't mean a whole lot, but you want them if
you want good hunting and the Taleydras had lived in them, so they had
their uses. He was curious as to why the Lorax was so intent on it though.
