shortishandbossy: (what the heck is that)
[personal profile] shortishandbossy
So is it just me, or has everyone been actin' a little off lately? And by "off", I mean angrier than usual. [there's the slightest background noise of water trickling onto something. He's watering the tree at night fight him]

Didn't even think it was possible for some of you to be even more hot-headed.
shortishandbossy: (unless yo)
[personal profile] shortishandbossy
[The Lorax has been pretty quiet lately. He's just been going about his business as a guardian. Anyone who's ever around where the tree is has probably seen him watering and talking to it. It's his job, after all. Especially since the kid left.

Today though, a few shaky doodles of
these things appear in the journal. They look like a five-year-old drew them but hey, he's never been an artist. Just trying to make a point. After three or four scribbles, he speaks quietly.]

What do you think makes these special? [pen tap on the journal for emphasis]

shortishandbossy: (wassat)
[personal profile] shortishandbossy
[Dictated casually into the journal, with a few thumps and bumps in the background]

A new year already, huh? Can be a good or a bad thing, depending on how you look at it. On one hand, you're gonna get a little bit older, but on the other you get a pretty clean slate.

It's kind of funny how you all on Earth celebrate the planet moving all the way around the sun. [coming from a creature whose homeworld celebrates Christmas by singing around a giant tree]
shortishandbossy: (your stupidity makes me sad)
[personal profile] shortishandbossy
[He hasn't been to his room since Christmas. Mostly because there's a pile of rocks arranged in the shape of a circle in the middle of his room. The word that's been carved into the largest stone is one he could go the rest of his life without ever seeing again. He wish he could.

So now he's near the tree again, feet feeling cold in the snow. Just standing there with an odd look on his face.]

...I've never gotten a gift before, from anyone. Don't usually celebrate holidays. I'm not even the one that needs the gift I got from the castle. Guess it's supposed to be a cruel joke or somethin'.
shortishandbossy: (im obviously a big deal)
[personal profile] shortishandbossy
Yeah yeah, I know that Thanksgiving thing was a couple days ago, and I still don't like the fact that you guys are eating innocent creatures --but the whole point is to be thankful for somethin', right?

Well, I'm thankful for the grass under my feet and the flowers that bloom in the spring and the people that keep the world clean. [What else were you expecting, Paradisa?]

Alright, your guys' turn. I don't care if you said it the other day, tell me again what you're thankful for.
shortishandbossy: (who do you think i am buddy)
[personal profile] shortishandbossy
"Shortish and Bossy"? Me? You gotta be kidding.

Anyways. I want my old room back. I don't want to move into town though. I'd rather stay close to the castle to keep an eye on the... thing.
shortishandbossy: (sad but rad)
[personal profile] shortishandbossy
[The Lorax has had a lot of time to think since arriving here. Too much time, in fact. Between eating and sleeping and checking up on the tree and the journal, his schedule isn't very exciting.

He usually doesn't roam around this late at night, but he's feeling restless and a little walk would probably do some good. So he's sitting between the shelves in the plant section of the library, flipping through a book about plants on earth (ironically printed on paper) to distract himself from his thoughts. Every now and again his eyes become unfocused and distant. There's obviously something on his mind.]

Beanpole )

People's allergies are going haywire from the change of seasons. Try to aim away from the journals when you sneeze, pretty sure everyone'll appreciate that. And drink some hot tea.

shortishandbossy: (Default)
[personal profile] shortishandbossy
[The Lorax has been lingering around the Once-ler's room despite the fact that the castle has been declared safe. He just wanted to make sure it wasn't going to be a false alarm, that's all. He's only taking precautions. No one can ever be too careful when dwelling in a possibly psychotic castle. And despite the fact that everyone's reclaimed their voices, he hasn't been in a very talkative mood. The sting of knowing that Sheena had died was getting to him.]

Mmm...

[He's claimed the Once-ler's bed as his own personal napping spot, and the open journal under him is recording sounds that are not unlike a lawn mower. Good luck getting any sleep with that racket echoing through the journals]

shortishandbossy: (maybe things will be okay)
[personal profile] shortishandbossy
[Despite the sun beginning to set, the Lorax is outside, sitting in front of the Truffula tree. The amount of time he's been watching it is probably questionable. But that's nothing unusual. He is the guardian of the tiny thing, it's what he's supposed to do. Besides, it's become a sort of habit. This is the only Truffula existing at the moment, after all. Might as well enjoy its beauty while it lasts.

When he's away from it there's always a nagging tug of fear that he might come out one day to see that it's disappeared, much like the other residents that come and go. He honestly dreads the day when he'll be sent back, too.

He's not paying attention to his surroundings, and it looks like he might be muttering to the tree. The journal, which has somehow managed to flip open over the hours, records some of the muffled words. They appear on the page as jibberish, though.]
shortishandbossy: (Psh yeah sure kid)
[personal profile] shortishandbossy
[Filtered away from First Gens, their allies, and anyone who would do any harm to the expedition]

An expedition, huh? Sounds like some of us are gonna go play hero to these people. There's a good chance it's a trap, you know. [He scoffs a bit, although it sounds more like a grumpy huff.]  Good way to get some people killed.

[He's quiet for a while though, as if mulling over a decision. Getting out of the castle would be a nice change of scenery..]

...Count me in, I guess. But someone's gonna have to look after the... plant while I'm gone.
shortishandbossy: (what the hell is this)
[personal profile] shortishandbossy
This whole "loss" thing is startin' to get frustrating. There's gotta be some way around it without having to sound like an idiot.
shortishandbossy: (Default)
[personal profile] shortishandbossy
[He's sitting out in front of the tree this afternoon, open journal in front of him like he's been doing almost every day since he came. And every day when he does he feels that twinge of regret with maybe a little guilt mixed in. A horrible feeling, really. He wouldn't recommend it.]

[The only noise is the background sounds of the outdoors until he speaks quietly, as if he doesn't want to disturb it all.]

Lots of you have a thing you regret doing back home. Let's hear it if it isn't too personal.
shortishandbossy: (hold up)
[personal profile] shortishandbossy
[The Lorax strongly dislikes talking over the journal. Or having anything to do with it, really. But he hasn't gotten a chance to keep people away from his trees in a long time]

You know the tiny pink thing out in the open outside? If not, good. Don't go lookin' for it. If so, don't touch it. Don't touch it, don't poke it, don't even look at it. Just let it grow, if you please. It's important.
shortishandbossy: (dammit beanpole look what you did)
[personal profile] shortishandbossy
[yo Paradisa, there's a very short orange creature with a mustache trying to reach the door to the fridge in the kitchen.

what do.]

shortishandbossy: (what the hell is this)
[personal profile] shortishandbossy
[Having a loss sucks. Having a loss that keeps you from mentioning the things you are the guardian of sucks even more. And because of his inability to speak the "t" word, the Lorax has been forced to try and think up other similes.]

What's your guys' opinion on... plant life?

Beanpole's mom )
shortishandbossy: (what the heck is that)
[personal profile] shortishandbossy
[As much as he disapproves of the use of trees for things like paper and journals, the Lorax has decided that he's only keeping his around because it's easier to keep up with things through it. Still, the unusual amount of crying and other little kid noises is making him regret that decision a bit.]

So what's with all of the beansprouts runnin' around? I didn't think humans had a mating season.
shortishandbossy: (Default)
[personal profile] shortishandbossy
[There isn't a giant, dramatic entry. Not a bang, not a crash. Lightning doesn't pierce the sky, wind doesn't gush through the trees. He's just... there.

Well. One minute he was there and then he was here and he can tell this isn't any kind of place he's been to before. The last place he'd been was smogged up and hacked to pieces. Nothing but stumps and glup and destruction. But here there's grass and fresh air and the sprout of something that resembles a truffula tree off to the side but that can't be right because there aren't anymore trees or he would have been back years ago.

He looks slowly to the left, then to the right. Glances up at the sky. Glances down at the ground. He spots the journal sitting there. How convenient. The Lorax pushes away his annoyance at thought of how many trees it might have taken to make this thing before beginning to hesitantly flip through it.]

...Hm.
