Zip-Zap-Bang! [ action + dictation if you like ]
[ Vanyel has been careful to take himself away from people for this little experiment of his, not wanting to have someone accidentally get caught up in it. Not that he wanted to hurt anyone, really, but accidents happened and the rooms in Chimera were a bit to small for what he was attempting to work with. At his feet stood a book - well, several. Some with pictures, some with words, and one being the journal, carefully read and figured as he looked at the dummies he had set up in a circle around himself.
He took stock, like he was sizing up enemies, glancing down at the books at his feet before bracing himself. Air whistled between his teeth as he took a breath, gathering his magic...
And lightning lanced from his hands, bolting out towards the dummies he had set up. The first bolt hit his target, but the second went past, singing the ground it struck. Good thing he had come out here then.
From far off, though, it would like bright flashes of lights, lightning to close to the ground, but controlled - and no storm in sight. ]

Re: (Action)
[ Vanyel went around the circle, firing the bolts, and finally completed the full turn. He stood in the center of the circle, panting, considering how many he had actually hit and the bolts that had gone wide. It was more than he liked, but it was only the first few passes, and he had gotten better since the first turn.
He wiped the sweat from his brow, looking back when he felt someone watching and smiled when he saw Tylendel. ]
'Lendel! How long have you been there?
(Action)
(There is a note of pride in his voice. It's strange to see Vanyel wielding magic and yet...
He can't help but feel proud that his lover has come so far.)
Re: (Action)
Well, I thought it might be time for me to try expanding my abilities. I would never have thought of using it this way, but these "comic books" are enlightening...
[ He nudged one of the books at his feet and grinned sheepishly. ]

Re: (Action)
Perhaps, but I have a wider range than Savil.
[ It was true, he did - he had more than anyone. ]
This is not necessarily taxing so much as irritating.

Action
You're really good at that. No hand motions or incantations.
Re: Action
[ He turned to consider the person approaching, his first round down, some of the targets singed, most not and dark holes around the area where his lightning had struck wide or short. ]
Ah, thank you. It's one of my better magic spells.
Action
Its very different from any country's magic I'm familiar with. But I think it just as to do with.. castle, and the whole different worlds thing.
[ He almost wonders if Ryner still would be able to copy it. ]
Re: Action
Ah, I know what you mean. In Chimera I've met so many different types of magics it's astonishing.
[ He shook his head, catching his breath as he let his magic replenish some. It was harder, without a node, but he made due. ]
What is your magic like?
Action
[ At that question, he smiles in the self-conscious way. ]
I'm rather terrible at it, really. In Roland, we make a circle and say a phrase.
Re: Action
Yes, that is more or less it. I keep a work room there when I work on magics that are a bit less destructive in nature.
Oh really? I would be interested to see, if you care to. I don't want to make you uncomfortable, of course.

[ Vanyel, you were using magic. Is it that much of a surprise that Duke has shown up? ]
Not as a storm. Seems easier to direct, if also harder...
Re: Action
Oh, Duke.
[ He smiled at him, lightning fizzling out as he let the magic go and channeled it down into the earth, even though that would mean it would take more time to replace it later. ]
Yes, I do not need to call a storm to use Lightning. It is one of my more usual and aggressive magics.
Action
[ He was trying other things, they just haven't worked out yet. ]
Re: Action
It is easier if there is a storm for me, but that's not always available so I figured I better practice. It seemed prudent considering the state of things.
Action
[ That wasn't quite what he was saying, Vanyel, but he doesn't care enough to try to point it out. ]
... Unless my presence is distracting, feel free to ignore me.
[ He wants to see if he can figure out how Vanyel does this. ]
Re: Action
Oh, no, not distracting. Though if you want to remain, I would suggest standing back a bit more? I do not want to accidentally strike you.
Do you have any pointers for me?

Re: [action]
[ He finished and he turned to Clow, smiling at him and waving his hand, panting some from the use of magic. ]
I should have known you might have come out here.

As if I'd ever miss a show. Especially such a skilled one.
no subject
Haha, I'm a little rusty, actually - or rather, not rusty, but adjusting to a new style. Normally I just call strikes from the sky, but I wanted to see if I could do it from my hands. I can, but I need to work on the accuracy...
[ He nodded at a charred bit of ground not to far from Clow. ]
no subject
Hmm - an interesting variation. And probably best to practice outside, accuracy or not - lightning is more at home here. It's not quite as temperamental as fire but it comes close.
no subject
Oh... I suppose I could try it with fire too. But you are right, the fire would be easier to control. Lightning has always been harder, and I usually have to do it like I'm calling it from the sky. This could provide multiple points, not just one. I don't like developing fighting magic, but... in this place, it will probably come in handy.
