[Katniss stood at the window of the room where Mark's radio equipment was, looking out to the middle distance of the snow-covered grounds of the castle. She flicked her eyes to the sky, then to the radio again, before she sat down at the desk, looking at all the buttons and switches with a sort of sad glumness. She ran her fingers over what looked like a music player, then one of the speakers, before she spoke softly to the journal sitting open.]

...I don't suppose anyone who knows how to work Mark's music would be willing to teach me, would they? I ... I miss the music.

[A sigh, as she put her chin down on her hands. Thinking all the friends who are gone - thinking of the nameplate she had found missing earlier. Once. Gone. Another one who had floated on home.]

I hate the silence.

[And for her at least, those words hold weight. There are too many ghosts, in Katniss Everdeen's closet.]

[There's a sigh and a light frown as he hears that, for a couple of reasons. Mark being one of them, the radio itself being another.]

I think you'll not be short of offers to teach, miss.

[She jerks at that writing - because the last time she saw it ... grey eyes narrow on the page, as she speaks slowly.]

I hope so.

[Frowning, she asks carefully.]

Do I know you?

[That's both an odd and a perfectly normal question to be asked of him.]

I... don't know. Do you? I was here at the castle before but I don't have recollection of that I'm afraid. [He rolls her words around, thinking on her careful tone.] I do feel like I've heard your voice before.

[She makes a face - yes, it's the same person but not. He apparently has gotten over being tracker-jacked, which is a relief. Of course, now he had to heal from all the arrows she put in him so ...]

No, you didn't know me. Your tracker-jack personality probably did, though. [She sighed.] I'm the one who shot you. [Might as well get this out of the way.]

[There's a pause as he connects the voice to a face - that he recalls easily - and then he's flipping through the journal pages to compare the handwriting. Sure enough, it's her. Good Lord.

That was you. You tried to stop it. I'm so sorry. I never thought I'd ever say this for being shot, but I'm grateful for your efforts, that you tried. More than you'll know.

[Aaaaaaaah ...]

I would say 'you're welcome', but I'm fairly sure that would make me crazy for making you thank me for shooting you.

Well, yes, the shooting part understandably so and really, I can't say I'm fond of that. But that you tried to stop it? Grateful and... Very glad that you didn't come to any harm.

If it helps at all, I didn't feel a thing at the time. [Not until he was back in control of his body at least.]

Well, that I'm grateful for. I don't know what that thing was inside of you, but it wasn't ... it was evil, wasn't it?

[She's seen evil. Seen the glint in Snow's eyes, in Coin's. Evil has a very distinctive look, when you know where to find it.]

I'm glad. I didn't want to hurt you.

[Quick pause.] Yes. Yes it was. Thankfully it's gone now and can no longer cause any harm. Going against it alone, I think you were very lucky.

[There's a quick smile in his voice.] If you did want to hurt me I would really be worried. I'm sorry we couldn't have met properly under better circumstances. I'm known as the Doctor and I'm pleased to meet you.

An instrument?

[That's interesting enough to him; Middle Earth in general is big on music.]

[She shook her head a little.]

It's a radio ... a machine that makes music. Although I guess learning how to play an instrument would be just as good.

[A pause.]

I see.

[Even if it was hard to, really. Such things did not exist where he came from, after all.]

[She is silent for a moment, before she asks, a little awkwardly.]

Do you ... know an instrument?

[woodking]

[He smiles a little, voice slightly wistful when he speaks.]

Where I come from there are few who do not. There are many who love music, and if it is to be enjoyed then it must be provided.

[She traces her fingers along the buttons again, before she continues her line of questioning. It's better than the silence.]

What sort of instruments do you play?

At this point many. One that I love is the harp. But I have none but my voice here, I am afraid.

Do you know a lot of songs? [She tilted her head, curious.] I've heard harps before - in the Capital. Large things to make such delicate sounds.

[Katniss's tone brightens, when she sees his familiar handwriting.] I've missed you, where have you been? And which songs?

I have [a very brief pause and when he continues, he sounds amused] been here and there. You may have seen me.

Many songs. Song is very important among my race and we have songs for many things.

[She didn't finish that, but she was faintly hopeful.]

What kinds of songs? For what kind of things?

[He laughs softly.] When would you like them? I have a great deal of free time.
