[The journal falls open, and a faint burn marks show on the edges of the page. There are sounds - sounds like crashing and slamming, and yes. Cursing. A great deal of cursing that suddenly became words.]

Come - back ... down here you damned bird! No, stop! Stop! Not the curtains! Don't set fire to the curtains! Sit! Stay! ARGH!

[Then there is the sound where she turns and yells across the room.] ANNE! Get out here and help me! You have got to help me! This thing is setting fire to everything!

[There was another crash, and Katniss sighs as a few more burn spots appear on the page.]

...I hate this castle...

My child would not burn me at the touch, not that such a task was mine to carry out. This is an abomination in any case.

I agree the situation is not idea, but what else can be done but mitigate the damage as much as possible? If it sees you as its mother it may listen to you.

Because it is not mine, nor human at all, no matter the guise. Scarcely different than the monster and it's thread.

I would not do such a thing, but I did not receive one for which I am ever grateful. I only observed it happen with others.

I am not fond of treating such true pleasures of motherhood as a passing fancy.

Well said. Even with these creatures it is not possible to simply abandon them and this is what I thought even before the castle's little reminders that we should be responsible 'parents'.

[His was a light smile now, the temporarily merriment of a certain admission from Katniss lightening his mood enough to tease.]
