[The journal falls open, and a faint burn marks show on the edges of the page. There are sounds - sounds like crashing and slamming, and yes. Cursing. A great deal of cursing that suddenly became words.]

Come - back ... down here you damned bird! No, stop! Stop! Not the curtains! Don't set fire to the curtains! Sit! Stay! ARGH!

[Then there is the sound where she turns and yells across the room.] ANNE! Get out here and help me! You have got to help me! This thing is setting fire to everything!

[There was another crash, and Katniss sighs as a few more burn spots appear on the page.]

...I hate this castle...

[ At least Anne's screams can't be heard. Until she's called for like she's back to maid status, which thank you but no! All the same, she knows remaining in the closet might just end up with her burning to death. But fear is paralyzing when one has already suffered a fire phobia, and it's all she can do to crack the door back open to peek out.

Oh sure she'll help all right. Why did it have to be a phoenix? Is this a joke for May Day, or is this Katniss's fault? ]

Kill it! This is not worth the castle's judgment!

[Katniss growled into the closer.] Well if you stuck your head out of the goddamned closet, for five damned minutes, you'd see I am little busy trying to put out the fires that our 'baby' has started.

[She sighed as she poured another picture of water over the curtains.]

So if you want it dead, you need to come out here.

[ Anne doesn't appreciate anyone talking to her like that, and if it were a different situation she would be sure to let Katniss know that. But things are a little too chaotic for her to worry about that; she'd rather avoid being set on fire. She has a lot more clothes that can catch, too, what with her collar and skirts.

But she darts out, anyway, trying desperately to locate a bow and arrows. She's never shot a flying and moving target before, but damned if she isn't going to try. That thing is NOT her baby. ]

[Luckily for you, Anne, your 'partner' is armed to the teeth, so her bow and arrows are safely tucked away from their baby as Katniss dashes around, putting out the fires that the bird had started.

She ignores whatever Anne is doing - which she would do regardless - as the woman has done nothing but flit about all afternoon.

I am afraid I have had one of these 'children' presented to me as well. This castle will go to any lengths to provoke a reaction. Does yours listen to anything you say?

A bird on fire... [Interesting. Firethroat had heard mummers of fire birds before, but she had no seen one as far as she can remember. Perhaps they had gone somewhere other than Luster.]

Tell me, do you know if it was born on fire or caught aflame? [She doesn't want to make any assumptions.]
