[There's a faint drumming sound that seems to be coming from somewhere in here, but only few can hear it. Stacks upon stacks of books occupy the long tables of the library, but among these stacks and blending in quite nicely is something that is distinctly not a book.
A small, wooden box sits on one of the tables, surrounded by a few low stacks of encyclopedias. The drumming seems to be coming from it, but it won't stop until all that can hear it are seated and ready to begin.]
[ For the Doctor it's like an itch he can't scratch. An insistent drumming that he can't ignore.
It reminds him of the Master and the beating he said that he could always here, although the beats don't line up quite the same. Still, he has to wonder if the cause could be the same.
Following where the drums lead he finds the library and sits across the table from the pony. ]
I always thought I read quite enough really... You hear it too? The drumming?
[ Joshua already has to put up with enough 'noise' on a daily basis, but that was supposed to leave the moment his powers did. This is new, and even more anxiety-inducing when it doesn't seem to have any perks other than driving him crazy. He only follows it because if he can find it, then he can shut it up, even if he can't currently 'stop' it in time. ...Besides, he has nowhere else to go, but that's too depressing to think on for too long.
He's surprised to see a pony trying to balance on chairs in the library. This is the last place he would expect noise to come out of, one of the few places in the castle he actually likes if he has to be here, at least normally. A dressed up talking animal hardly gets him to bat an eye now, but the Doctor's appearance seems to strike a nerve in the blond teenager, whether or not the Doctor remembers. For every memory Joshua has forgotten, others cling on all the more, and faces of enemies he doesn't forget, and that includes Time Lords.
So he ignores the pony, and glares at the doctor when he stops near the stacks they're at, the closest source to the drumming sound so far. It makes him clutch at his ears. ]
Me?! [ The Doctor asks with an indignant raise of his eyebrow. ] What makes you think I would have anything to do with it?
[ Even without his abilities he can feel the dislike coming off of the newcomer. Sadly the Doctor has no idea who he is or why there would be any possible problem between them. Narrowing his eyes back, he'd like to know the reason. ]
[He trails off to glance between the two human-shaped-things. Deciding he wants nothing to do with whatever petty weird two-legged arguments they might have, he sets to nosing through the pile, trying to get to the source of the sound.]
[ Joshua doesn't seem to care if the Doctor recognizes him or not, shown by how he just keeps glaring, and doesn't answer his question. But their reaction does take his notice. ]
...You can hear this noise, too?
[ So they aren't doing it TO him, but that doesn't make it any less annoying. His gaze moves from the Doctor to the pony, watching him dig around, and finally reaches across to shove a handful of books onto the floor. At the sudden appearance of the box, the noise seems to get even more intense for a moment, as not all called to it are gathered yet. If he had his strength he'd just try to break it, but maybe a pony's hooves would be better in this case. ]
[ When Joshua doesn't answer his question the Doctor shrugs. He's still curious and will keep a close on this new friend but he's not about to let it show that it has him interested or confused. ]
Yes, I'd say that's a good bet as to what has all us here...
[ The sudden pushing of the books away has him raising another eyebrow. That's one way to clear the table he supposes. Tilting his head he reads the name on the top of the box. ]
Jumanji... Never heard of it, but it rather looks like a board game.
[ His eyes look up to the pony to see what his reaction is. Not looking at Joshua directly, be his reaction is being noted as well. ]
[ Play it? Joshua loves games, but he doesn't feel completely in the mood. At least not until noise stops and he can THINK.
His solution? Try to pick up the game board and throw it at the wall. Clearly destroying it is solution number one! Of course a thing that makes such noise could be a bomb in disguise, but really, he does not care.
All that does is make it fall to the floor, open. Badum. ]
Really? You like that? [ Directed towards Cheese. Then the game is picked up and thrown against the wall. ]
[ Deadpanned ] Feel better?
[ As the game opens, the Doctor gets up and goes to investigate the contents. ]
Oh now, this is interesting... Jumanji, A game to those who seek to find, a way to leave their world behind. [ He picks up on of the tokens, holds it in front of his face, examining it. ] Very interesting.
[For David, the sound of drums was something familiar enough. In his mind, The Fiend had made a point to sound out a regular rhythm in order to disrupt his concentration. It was a beat he'd sort of unconsciously adopted as a "psychic warning" that he was coming. The sound he's hearing? It sounds nothing like what he's used to, so when he drops down from the Library's ceiling, having pinpointed it as the sound of the noise, he's a little confused.]
If by interestin' ye mean "exceptionally weird"? I agree wholeheartedly.
How can you ever not like music? Even if it is just drums, it's a wicked beat.
[He'll glance up at the sudden appearance of David, about to tell him that the exceptionally weird is always a-ok in his book, but the appearance of the little carved animals distracts him.]
I wanna be the hippo!!!
[He'll just grab aforementioned carved hippo and toss it at the board, watching in fascination as the idol moves to its starting point, upright and ready.]
[ It's clearly magic, an easy thing to tell even if Joshua doesn't have special powers at the moment. Such a thing naturally draws his curiosity, especially when the noise seems to stop. What's the worst thing that could happen? ]
No more weird than people dropping from ceilings.
[ An off-hand mutter as he leans down to pick up a small carved rhino. ]
It reads like a contract. A contract means you have to follow it through... Leave the world behind? Does it mean going home, or just leaving the castle again?
[ The Doctor frowns slightly as the Hippo moves into place. Curious he tries to lift the piece off the board but it is well and truly stuck in place. The piece in his hand, a monkey, becomes his focus once more. Turning it over he wishes for his abilities that are once again missing and he fights off the urge to taste the piece to find out more information. ]
Don't know. Although i can't really see the Castle allowing us the opportunity to go home. There'd be no fun for it in that.
[ Meaning to toss the piece back into the storage compartment beside the playing field he's somewhat surprised to see it change course and move to it's starting position on the board. ]
Well, I don't know about you guys, but I am going coo-coo, being trapped in the castle all the time. Even if it doesn't send us home, I am all for moving on to pastures new.
[Were it not for his loss, he would have left a long time ago. He's starting to feel claustrophobic, and as far as he's concerned, this is a great answer to his troubles. He beams at David and Joshua.]
You two gonna play, or what? Come on, nopony likes a stick in the mud.
[ Joshua doesn't expect it means it will send them home, but if it will let them out of the castle and away from all these people, Joshua will give it a go. Even without his noise, he's too used to his solitude at the mansion to want to live in a cracked-in-half castle for much longer.
And it might serve as a distraction now that he can focus. Beating The Doctor in a game might be satisfying, if juvenile, so he shrugs and sits down to set the rhino next to the monkey and hippo. ]
If the castle is providing it, we shouldn't be bored.
[David shrugs, picking up the Crocodile, and turning it over in his fingers before putting it next to it's fellows on the game board.]
Might as well, aye? If nothin' else, it'll be interestin' ta see how this all plays out. Wonder how we figure out who's got the first roll?
[David is nothing if not adaptable, though being without his powers is kind of bothersome, though it's not exactly the first time he's dealt with such a handicap.]
Oi! Now, where did you come from? [ The frustration is more that she took him by surprise and not that she's arrived. He hates not having his senses work as they should. ]
[ Quickly he smiles at her. ] By all means, ladies first!
[Similarly to the others, David nods and gestures for Vriska to have the first roll. If anything weird or bad was to happen, she'd be the first to experience it.]
Not too bad of a roll there, Vriska. You get a 10! The little piece slowly slides across the board, much like it would with an invisible hand guiding it. It moves almost ominously, carefully, sitting firmly on one spot.
As soon as it stops, the circle in the middle shows cloudy, the darkness broken by curling letters slowly forming into a sentence. If anything, the riddling words come off as even MORE ominous.
They grow much faster than bamboo. Take care or they'll come after you.
...Do you hear that? It sounds like plants rustling. Wait. Plants?
Oh.
It looks like there are some plants and vines growing in the room. That's some pretty fast growing. And growing. And... growing...]
[Cheese has, on occasion, found it necessary to travel via the Everfree Forest. It's always a last resort, but sometimes he has no choice. It's a dangerous place, ruled by its own natural sort of magic, where creatures stalk in the shadows and the plantlife oftentimes have minds of their own.
He's reminded very much of that place now, as the plants begin to grow. He shakes off a vine, creeping around his hind leg, glancing around.]
Not that I want to alarm anypony, but it might be time to start getting alarmed.
[ Joshua raises an eyebrow at the sudden growth of foliage, but it's not like he can move any closer to the board game or away from the wall. ]
My sword's at the mansion...
[ Such a shame, too, since that sword could cut through anything. He has a pistol strapped to his belt, but he's not about to start shooting at vines...unless they grab for him. It would make more sense to wish up a knife, but since the earthquake the castle hasn't been granting any of his wishes.
Thinking it might make the vines stop if it moves onto the next piece, Joshua grabs the dice to roll next. ]
