case #003 ☕ [dicated]/[action]
[If anyone walks into the kitchen, they will spot an unfamiliar teenager rifling through the kitchen cabinets. A coffee craft sits next to the sink filled with water, and the young brunette manages to knock a bag of coffee out of one of the cabinets, powdering it all across the counter.]
Oh crap.
[Her journal is open on the counter next to her, recording every frustrated grunt and mumble. Although residents of the castle might not recognize her, Kate Beckett is no stranger to the castle at all - even though she remembers it as a confused seventeen year old and not as a grown adult.]
Ugh, is there anyone around here that knows how to work the freaking coffee machine? I cannot do today without some caffeine.
[As it happens, even as a teenager, Kate still can't make a decent cup of coffee. She also happens to be experiencing her first temporary loss.]

[She shut the book and walked quickly to the kitchen, a bit worried at what she might find. Kate's voice had almost the same timbre but the words didn't sound like her. Something was wrong.
Alexis arrived in the kitchen to find a tall brunette, similar in shape to Kate, but a bit more gawky, examining the coffee maker.]
Kate?
action;
[ Kate looked up from the coffee machine and smiled. Alexis didn't look any different to her, of course, and she acted completely normal and comfortable in her presence. ]
Sorry, I hope I didn't pull you away from anything important.
action;
K-Kate? You're... a teenager.
action;
action;
The castle made you a teenager again.

[Part of her wondered if she shouldn't just go with it, considering it was obviously one of the castle's tricks, but it was just so weird.]
action;
[ She made a face, but Kate crossed her arms, frowning. ]
Seriously, you're starting to freak me out.
action;
How do you know me?
[Yes, she was going to try to out-logic the castle.]
action;
I talked to you when you first showed up here. And then you got turned into a mermaid and I came to keep you company and we started hanging out after that.
[ Kate remembered it all very clearly, and she couldn't understand why Alexis didn't. ]
Maybe the castle is messing with you. Could it have changed your memory?
action;
So... nothing about being a homicide detective back home and meeting my dad?
action;
Uh... No?
action;
[So the castle had regressed her. Actually, it made sense that Kate didn't know anything about being a cop, but Alexis was confused as to how Kate knew her. It didn't follow - but when had the castle ever made sense?]
Well. Let me see if I can help you with the coffee maker.
action;
[ All Kate wanted was some coffee. The castle was bad enough without dealing with caffeine withdrawal. ]
action;
So, how old are you? [She asked over her shoulder.]
action;
action;
[It dawned on Alexis then that if this Kate wasn't even 18 yet, then her mother was still alive. She turned to look at her, as if expecting to see an entirely different person.]
action;
action;
Yeah I'm lucky, I know...
[She managed to get the machine working again and stood back while the coffee percolated.]
So.. what kinds of things did you like to do in NYC?
action;
[ Kate offered Alexis a smile. ]
I like to go out with my friends... Go to movies, shows, book signings... I went to New York Comic Con last year, that was fun, too. That probably sounds lame, huh?
action;
Oh, I did that too a few years ago. I wore a fuzzy bikini top and my dad flipped. And he's the one who's all worried about accuracy in costuming.
action;
You dress up? Shut the front door, that is awesome. I've been meaning to do that, but I haven't found anything I'd want to wear yet.
action;
It was really just that one year I went. Dad was going to be there because he and.... the.. detective that he works with were investigating a case there.
