[Perched on a rock just to the side of the road that led into town, Wade felt peaceful for the first time in months. The air was cool and sweet-smelling, the colors of the trees were beautiful, and she was pleasantly full from a lunch of an apple tart from one of the street vendors and the hard cider she was still halfway through nursing.

She opens up the journal to the sound of town traffic - a horse cart and the distant sound of children laughing as they played games in the orchard.]

This is...nice. As much time as we all spend resenting the place, it's hard to appreciate the little things. We all needed a break from the usual.

If you haven't been down to town yet, you should come see it. It's so perfect. Reminds me a little bit of those fall carnivals we used to go to when I was little. All it's missing is a hay ride.

What do you guys usually do for fall? Any kind of holidays or traditions?

Well over in England we have Guy Fawkes day. But yeah that's in November. I guess Halloween could be counted as a celebration too.

Guy Fawkes day. I think I've heard of that, but I'm not really sure what it is....

We burn a straw man on a fire to remember when Guy Fawkes tried to overthrow the government.

That seems like a weird thing to celebrate. Something failing at a rebellion.

I guess people didn't like what he was trying to do and celebrate that he was stopped and killed. I don't know. I only go because of the bonefire.

I can't argue with a bonfire. Hey! When do you celebrate it? Maybe we can have one?

5th of November. But yeah I've never arranged something like that myself. It's more of a community spirit thing.

Well, we're kind of a community right? A kind of a small one now, but it could be just what we need.

I doubt a lot of people knows what the whole thing will be about tho.

Does it matter? You said yourself you're mostly only in it for the bonfire.

That and the alcohol. I don't care about the candy apples that much. It's mostly for kids anyway and scorched women.
