[Ask for one thing, get another.

In this case, a live elephant. It certainly looks out of place, but at least the castle has put it down in the lobby, instead of in a much-too-small room, or outside in the cold. Clark is playing with it, kind of like one might play with a dog –– fetch, leading it around with an apple, tossing around a ball.

He's enjoying himself today, especially considering the upcoming nuptials.

The elephant bumps him with its trunk, knocking his journal out of his pocket and to the floor. Clark just rolls with it. Why not? He starts tussling with the elephant, gently, while speaking.]

You know... today isn't so bad. You learn something new all the time.

I think I'd like to visit Africa someday.

[ nudge is coming in from outside (the weirdness of the stairs had been too much to deal with, so she took the short way down) and she just sort of stares at this with her mouth open. how has he not been squished to jelly yet... ]

[He's playing tug of war with the elephant, one-handed. He looks up when he hears Nudge open the door, though, and he smiles. He knows how weird this looks, though.]

Hey. It's okay, it's a nice elephant.

[blabs]

[ she snaps her mouth closed, peers at him a second, opens her mouth again, then closes it again.

hm. well. ]

How can you tell? What if it's just playing nice for the moment but it's secretly got plans to stomp on you when you're not looking?

[supes]

[Grin. He loves kids and their questions, and their excellent logic.]

I dunno... would you mess with someone who was feeding you treats and playing with you? Seems a little rude.

[blabs]

It would be pretty rude... But who knows what elephants are thinking?

[ she inches closer. she's never seen an elephant this close before when it's not behind bars. ]

Did the castle make it appear? I asked for a new hairbrush this morning and I got an anteater.

[452, on the other hand, is just staring up at this elephant in silent wonder. She's never seen anything like it before ever, and the way Clark is just PLAYING with it is ... yeah ... she can't. And she'll just be over here, lingering in the doorway and watching.]

[supes]

[He notices her, even if he is a little preoccupied by the elephant. He glances at her and beckons her over.]

If you want to come pet it, it's okay. It's safe.

[whatialways_do]

[she's hesitant at first, because ... adults being nice to her, what is that? But she'll eventually make her way closer, and reach out to place her hand on the elephant's trunk gently]

[He smiles, keeping one hand on the elephant's big neck.]

What do you think? Pretty cool, huh?

[there's a fierce nod as her smile widens, inching a bit closer]

It feels like leather.

[His first instinct is to run the other direction. Giant animal and little guy? That can't end well. There's something reassuring about the way Clark is around them. He's keeping his distance, but Steve can't help smiling at the scene in front of him.]

Do you do this normally where you come from?

[Clark glances over and smiles.]

Never, actually. We don't have elephants in Kansas. But when in Paradisa, right?

You're from Kansas. [He glances at the elephant and nods.] Think I'll skip this when in Paradisa experience even if you make it look easy.

[supes]

I take it you've heard of it?

[Hey, lots of people haven't. Clark picks up the soccer ball he had previously been kicking around for the elephant, and he rolls it across the floor, in the opposite direction from Steve. The elephant chases after it.

Steve is probably right to decline, Clark figures. The guy looks like he'd be a hundred pounds soaking wet.]

To be fair, it isn't exactly the safest when in, is it? Might be for the wiser not to play with fire.

[At this point, Steve is close assuming everyone is from a futuristic world where America's existence is up in the air. He finds it a little funny Clark is recognizing the danger while playing with the elephant. Steve would never call him out on it since it seems like a really nice elephant even from his point of view.]

We usually don't deal with elephants unless the circus is in town and even then it's not this close. Thanks for the advice though. I'll try to be careful.

It will be a sobering vacation.

Yes, mostly to Sub-Saharan Africa.

I suggest keeping to the south for a honeymoon.

I was thinking of going as a part of my job, more than anything, but I'll keep that in mind. Thanks.

[Have the elephant trumpeting in the background again, and Clark chuckles.]
