I suppose we could ask them if we ever got home, though the literature in the library does not give meaningful insight into it.

[Again, a pause, and a small laugh.]

[The journal can be a sneaky thing, can't it? Because it is open and broadcasting this as Vanyel walks with Yfandes through the thawing grounds flipping through the journal, and since they are right next to each other, well, why not talk aloud? Of course, if you do not know about Yfandes, you have just been treated to a very strange conversation.

To anyone who has some sort of magical ability - or what would be considered magic back your reckoning -

I had spoken of this briefly with Apollo and it has been on my mind since a completion of my own trials, but is there a specific place that residents can do in time of emergency? And how well is it defended? I had thought of perhaps taking a large, spare room in the castle and ward it using different spells working together. I know this might cover only a small multitude of possible threats, but I think it might be better to have something in place constantly versus having to set it up every time in a crisis - of which I have come to understand have been quite a few.

Well, I think so, but then, I grew up with it, so...

Yfandes says it is easiest to understand by simply saying we count by the phases of the moon.

Have you made any progress on that project of yours?

Well enough. Other than that day of the 29th, I have had little excitement.

And we are discussing it. There are factors that might make it more difficult than I first imagined.

I think we all got more excitement than we wanted on the 29th.

Well, let me know if there's anything I can do. Doubtful as that may be.

I would welcome any insight. Sometimes, non magic users can see things those of us that do use it cannot. Even I find I sometimes fall into habits and do not look beyond the magical means when I should.

What kind of insight are you looking for?

Just... ideas. For me, my magic... works like building things. Weaving them. New ways of doing so can come from the ideas of weavers, of the brick layers. Does that make sense?

Kind of. But I'm not much of a builder, or weaver, or any of that.

It is all right. Any ideas are good, really.

Alright, so have you discussed any concrete ideas yet? The last time we talked you were looking for a room to put protective spells on I think.

Are you still looking for a space?

Yes, though Felix has suggested we try out any spells on scale models and the outposts first.

[solar_absorber]

Okay, so aside from the room and the spells, is there anything else you might need?

Someone to make sure I do not do anything to stupid. Yfandes has had enough of that so far.

Well, I'd be happy to lend a hand there if she doesn't mind the extra help.

[Though he trusts Vanyel knows what he's doing.]

Believe me, she enjoys finding someone else to scold me when I need it.
