[She is so cool. He sounds impressed, even if she hasn't exactly proven it.]

There aren't many women like that in my time.
wilder: (derp you for real?)

Huh.

You must have a lotta countries in your world.
molotov: (files.)

[personal profile] molotov 2012-03-11 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Women in your time are not generally given the opportunity to learn to be that way.
themistress: (uhhh.)

I'm not entirely sure of what a "country" is. There are many kingdoms, though.

[ Tilting his head to listen, and its a little bit of a delay that he seems to track the movement with his eyes. ]

Correct. [ He's just mildly good at pretending he's not. ]

.... Are you the smaller of the two dragons left to the castle?

They could if they tried. [He shrugs.] Most women are happy with things as they are.

You think that. There is so much history we have discovered that contradicts your words.

[How much of that time is spent deeply talking to women about their oppression!!!!!!]

Journals, letters, various accounts. And the fact that women will eventually tire of patriarchal bonds, and overthrow them. It is just a pity that it takes so long.
helljumper: (♥ Relaxing.)

[personal profile] helljumper 2012-03-11 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Same here.

[Yeaaah... Kallen's never mentioned you either. Which may or may not have been a good thing, but for now Rookie is just going to take it easy with his planting rows. Mostly because he's never really done this before himself.

Didn't mean he was going to act like he was afraid of a little dirt, though.

[Not much of it 8( ]

I believe that men should never raise their hands against women, or brutalize them, or violate them, but men also provide for women and protect and shelter them. What good would it do for women to sever their bonds with men entirely? How would they provide for themselves?

[Molotov blinks for a moment, then enunciates like he is five.]

They get jobs. They hold the same rights as men, to land and name and inheritance. They go to universities and become educated. Men are not inherently better at providing and sheltering, you know.

In my world, I make far more money than Samson does. At least a thousand times his yearly income. And I run my own company, one that has bested every other company in competition with us. No men work for or with me.

Why do I need a man for anything other than my own entertainment and fulfillment, Mr. Auditore?

That is the crux of it, yes. Of course, wielding magic requires training and the specifics of the ability varies from pony to pony.

[any cloud moving is automatic by now as she stares down at the wheelchair] Thou connectest these computers to machinery and give it instructions so that thou dost not have to supervise it at all times?
samson: (that's a stupid thing to say)

[personal profile] samson 2012-03-11 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
[Brock nods in greeting, also surreptitiously glancing around for mistletoe or birds or something stupid.

Good, all clear.]

Hey, Harmony. What -- uh.

Did you just paint that, or ...
samson: (~INTENSE FACE~)

[Oh, tiny horse. Figures.]

Thanks, I guess. [weaving....]

Do they actually use these? I mean, don't birds make their own ... things ...

Yep! I thought it was very spring-themed. Is it too much? I have blue and purple too.
assassino: (critical ❧ i won't be waiting for you)

[personal profile] assassino 2012-03-11 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
[This has never occurred to him, especially not in that kind of detail.]

Few women have men's jobs, in my time, beyond prostitutes and nursemaids, but where would they get the skills to have other occupations? Who would pay for their education, to start their companies? And if men are not better providers, why have we served that role through all of history?

[And before the inevitable schooling, he adds:]

I would enjoy a society in which women are not confined to the home or the brothel, but I simply do not see how it is possible. Besides, men would be scoundrels without a woman's tenderness.

MOLOTOV: CHAMPION FEMINIST

[personal profile] molotov 2012-03-11 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Women are exactly as capable of learning occupational skills as men are. Why does having a penis make you more qualified to be an assassin than I am? Do not even answer that: it does not. In fact, I am probably a better assassin than you are. [She's not being gloating, or even particularly snarky -- her tone implies that it's just a fact, same as if she had told him that the sky is blue, or water is wet.]

Men have been dominant because men tend to be larger, and ancient people did not have societal restraints that stopped them from beating women into submission. Then men took away the rights, or what amounted to them, of women to do anything without permission. They wrote it into religion, convinced women that they could do nothing except care for men and children. They killed women who spoke out and took action. They valued a woman only by her ability to produce sons. Men created a world where women were lesser, based on nothing more than their sex, and then they forced women into those rules. That is why men served that role.

In roughly 450 years, from your time point, women will fight back. They will obtain the vote, and the right to attend schools and hold jobs. The world will change, and men will feel it. I am lucky enough to be from long after that has happened, and I have reaped the benefits from the women who came before me.

Women leading lives of their own design, having money and power, does not mean that they stop forging relationships with men. But perhaps, if men are so incapable of civilized behavior without female influence, they should be locked away and used only for procreation. For the safety of everyone, da?
