That's okay. I wouldn't want to waste it. [he looks them over, then remembers what Katniss had told him about drinking cocoa on the train to the Games, how sweet and thick and amazing it was]

May I try the cocoa? ... Please?

[huntersdaughter]

Sure. [She'll move to grab the mug and pour some cocoa into it. She'll hand it over and then pull out the bag of marshmallows.]

Do you want marshmallows? I also have milk. [She'll nod her head toward the pint of it on the top of the cart.]

[it already smells amazing. is that his stomach growling? maybe.]

What're marshmallows?

[huntersdaughter]

Sugary... puffs of... you know, I don't really know what's in them. I just know they're gooey on the inside and powdery on the outside. Here, taste a small one. [She'll hold out the bag with the mini ones.]

When they get in the cocoa they get smooshy and melty.

[fanstheflame]

Thank you. [he looks at it for a second, then pops it in his mouth. the powdery thing throws him off, and for a moment disgust crinkles up the corners of his eyes and mouth - but then most of the powder melts, and he catches the real flavor of them and starts chewing.

... okay, that's WEIRD. he's never had anything springy like that before]

... Can I ... take some and add them in after I've had some of the cocoa by itself? ... I like these. But I want to know what it tastes like without them.

[huntersdaughter]

[Jo smiles, nodding.]

Of course. [She'll reach to grab a small ziploc out of her small cart and tucks a few into the bag. Because snow = water.]

Marshmallows to go and a cocoa. [She'll hand the cocoa over slowly.] Careful, it's hot.

[fanstheflame]

Thank you very much. ... [he reaches out to take it, then realizes--]

I don't have anything to trade you for it. ... Not - not right now. What's your name? Can I get something to you, later? When we're done here?

[huntersdaughter]

[She shakes her head and waves off his offer.]

Not that I don't appreciate manners, because they're very nice, but I own the Lux and you guys are doing all the work. It's just my thank you to you guys.

[fanstheflame]

[he doesn't know what a Lux is, but he figures it must be sort of important, if she feels generous enough to do this for everyone.]

Wow. Um. [he blinks a little, then raises his cup in a toast to her] Thank you. That means a lot.

... My name's Gale.

[huntersdaughter]

It's nice to meet you, Gale. I'm Jo and if you ever want something to eat, the Lux is just inside the lobby. Toward the back. [She gestures over her shoulder, as if everyone can just see through the castle to where she's pointing.]

[fanstheflame]

Jo, from the Lux. [he repeats it to seal it in his memory, nodding] So it's like a market?

[huntersdaughter]

It's a bar, but most people wander in since we serve food too.

[fanstheflame]

A bar. [he's heard the expression before, mostly in reference to how things are in the Capitol] Those serve alcohol, right? ... I'm sorry. I must sound like an idiot. Usually you can only get alcohol and food if you barter for them, where I'm from.

[he cups his hands around the cocoa mug, letting it warm his hands]

[huntersdaughter]

Yeah, they serve alcohol primarily, but there's always a staple level of bad food at them. The Lux used to have a really good chef though, so a bit of it rubbed off on the rest of the staff.

[She'll wave off his comment, too.] And don't worry about it. I mean, there are talking ponies here. I'm not shocked when people aren't familiar with everything.

Talking -- whoa. Okay, nobody told me about that one. ... I just got here, yesterday, though.

[huntersdaughter]

Oops? [She laughs a bit.]

Sorry, it's ... it's hard to tell who is new. I live in the city so I don't generally see all the new ones wandering around the place. If you don't accidentally show up in the bar, then it'll take me a few times to realize it.

It's okay. I have a feeling I won't remember everyone right away, anyway. I grew up in a small town, so I'm used to having known everyone forever. This is --

[he blows on the cocoa, wishing it would cool down so he could try it, already]

To say it's all different is pretty much the biggest understatement I've ever made.

[huntersdaughter]

Well, Gale, if you ever need anything - you know how the journal works, right? You can just filter to me and I'll see if I can help out.

I've been here a while, so I know a thing or two.

I know that people can talk through it. What do you mean by "filter to you"? [he leans on his shovel a little]

[huntersdaughter]

It's a magic thing. You can think of who you want to send a message to, and only they'll see it or you can write it out like the start of a letter.

[She'll mime it a bit.] To Jo... [and miming is done.]

Then only I'll be able to see it.

Huh. Yeah, I'm still not sure about the whole magic thing. But writing, that I can do. To Jo. [he nods] It's a deal. ... Thanks.
