007 | Dictated

[On any given day it took a lot to get under Apollo's skin. He was too layed back for that; things bounced off him quick. But even he wasn't so layed back that he didn't have a few fears. Like not having sunlight for one. He's been in darkness before, even willingly sometimes, but always with the knowledge that the sun would be there when he needed it. Now...it was just gone. And Apollo has no way to get to it. It's very unsettling, but so far that seems to be the theme of the day.]

So, it's Friday the 13th and castle has a crappy sense of humor and a love for the ironic. Anyone want to make a bet how long this 'no sun' thing will last? Am I the only one worried that this might turn into something...permanent? [Just the thought made his voice a little shaky. What would he do if that happened?]

I hope every is managing okay in the dark. Though I wonder if anyone here is blessed with the ability to see in the dark. That seems like it would be the most useful right now.

I'm not dead yet, so that's the good news. I really wish I'd spent more time charging yesterday. I don't...I don't know how long I have. My only plan is to keep as much energy stored as I can.

Hopefully only for the day. Otherwise things are going to get much colder very soon.

[That's just what he needs, coldness in addition to darkness. It's like the castle was actively trying to kill him.]

That's what I'm afraid of.

[It might very well be. The castle isn't exactly out for their best interests.]

A perfectly reasonable fear. You'd think more people would be worried.
[Suddenly a scratching noise from inside the walls!]

…Though I suppose they might be somewhat distracted.

[The noise definitely doesn't help his already unsettled mind. His voice is suddenly low and tense, like he's clenching his jaw while he speaks.]

Yeah, distracted. That's a good way to put it. It's like it's trying to drive us crazy.

I wouldn't put it past it.

[Dairine turns around, almost certain that she heard a familiar laugh. One that made her skin crawl.] ...Rotten castle.

You got that right. You'd think it would get tired of jerking us around one of these days...but obviously not.

Of course not. What else would it do?

I don't know. Find a hobby? Get a life...or what passes for one when you're a sentient castle.

Oh, it has a life. [At least one similar to other inanimate life forms.] Just not a particularly good one.

I'm sure its life would be more fulfilling if it was providing housing to...I don't know...the homeless people in this world, instead of dragging people here from other worlds and forcing it on them.

Probably.

Maybe Paradisa doesn't have any homeless people, so it tried branching out. But there was a mistake and it got us instead. [Not that Dairine sounds like she believes that.]

Even then, I'm sure there's people in town who would love to live here. I mean, who doesn't want to live in a castle?

[Except it's current residence who would probably enjoy it more if they weren't prisoners.]

Can't say I know many [or any] townsfolk, but I know I wouldn't want to. [Even back home, away from... well, at least away from malevolent magic castles. Castles aren't her style.]

Oh really? Why not? Too excessive for your tastes?

A bit. [Her family isn't exactly rich.]

I'm used to a more modern look anyway.

This place is as modern as it gets...for a castle anyways.

Depends which modern we're talking about.

And that probably depends on what's considered modern in your own time.

Goku...where are you?

[He might be just short of freaking out but he can keep it together for Goku if he needs to.]

M'in my room an' it's all dark and weird.

[Aww daddypollo.]

Alright, stay there. I'll come to you.

[If he can find his room in the dark. Guess it's a good thing he still has a bit of a glow going, though he wasn't about to waste his energy on becoming the human flashlight or anything.]

[Goku is hiding in his room, clutching the oversized shirt he arrived to the castle in.]

S'that you, Apollo?

[Apollo manages to make it to his room without injury, so that's good news. He opens the door and peeks in, searching for Goku in the dark.]

Yeah, Goku, it's me. I'm coming in.

...yer glowin'!

[He gets up from the bed and hurries over, hugging Apollo.]

[He grins and crouches down to return Goku's hug.]

I'm always glowing. It's just more noticeable in the dark. Kind of makes me like an over grown night light.

I didn't notice! Maybe 'cuz yer always bright t'me.

[Smiling, he looks up at the man.]

I'm glad yer here.

Well, it's all part of my job.

[He grins at him and pats his head.]

Have you been hiding in here the whole time?

...yeah. I don't like it when it's dark like this.

[It made him feel so alone.]

I know what you mean. I'm not that fond of darkness myself. Plus, everyone else is probably trying to feel their way around the castle right about now. We're better off staying where we are.

[He sits down on the floor near the door and gets comfortable.]

Let me know when you get hungry and I'll go find you something, okay?

Yeah...

[He drags a blanket with him over to Apollo, and stops by a cardboard box to get his tribble. Sitting down next to his extra-dad, Goku gives a small sigh of relief.]

Thanks, Apollo.

[He watches him get settled with a smile. Briefly remembering all the times he had to sit up with Jenny when she'd had a nightmare.]

No problem, Goku. Try to get some sleep if you can. I'll wake you if anything happens.

Okay...

[He curls up and buries his head against Apollo's stomach, his long hair fanning out over his back.]

[Apollo rests a hand on Goku's head and strokes his hair until he falls asleep.]

Sleep tight.

[He falls asleep fairly quickly, with Pillow in his arms and rolled up in his blanket. He's smiling now, feeling safe.]

Where are you?

On my way to Goku's room. I need to check on him.

Meet me on the roof as soon as you're done. Don't do anything to tire yourself out.

I wouldn't dream of it. I'll see you soon.

[Sometime later Apollo reaches the roof and waits.]
