Second Drink
[Haymitch has finally decided that maybe, maybe, Peeta isn't crazy and they really are living in a magical castle with people from other worlds. Maybe. Of course, that doesn't mean he's not on his guard. Even if this is what people say, it doesn't mean Snow or any of his Capitol stooges couldn't show up and ruin everything. Given what Finnick told him about the future...well. Better to be safe than sorry.
And Haymitch was prepared to keep those kids safe rather than sorry at any cost.
And so, he's sitting in the Lux, occasionally glancing at the drink of whiskey he can't have until someone hands it to him, flicking through his journal pages. Eventually, he deigns to talk]
Okay. So let's say I'm more willing to buy this magical castle idea. I want to know more about it. What makes it tick. Some of you have been here for years, apparently, you must have learned something in all that time.
I'm sitting in the Lux, if you'd like to play sharetime. We can have a drink, learn a thing or two. It'll be fun.

[but he gets over it pretty fast after mumbling that. After all, he had come down for as reason]
So uh... I brought my notes like I said I would!
no subject
He does, however, looks at least marginally interested now]
Good. Let's see what we've got here.

Is there anything specific you want to know to start with?

[he'll be ordering some sake for himself to drink before talking about the actual notes.]
For starters, we have people who have been here for about... 4 to 5 years. That's the longest time so far. Although apparently there are people who don't live in the castle anymore who have been here for even longer.
[he notices that his note for the first gens just says FUCKING ASSHOLES WRECKED MY BED]
...They're a bunch of jerks though.

...So where do they live if they don't live in the castle anymore?

Thanks, this is a big help. And here's me thinking everyone has sat on their asses and done nothing.
no subject
Yeah, it's not so much that everyone sits on their asses, a lot of people do a lot of research in fact. There's even been expeditions into ruins and things like that.
The problem is when you've been here for so long... I think a lot of them just kind of get tired or burnt out. Or they give up.
I gave up trying to explore the whole castle about a month or two in for instance. But then again, I wasn't exactly at peak health either at the time so I had that to worry about. Plus, I actually like it here, so I don't care as much as other people do.

It's easy to become complacent when you start to honestly believe there's no other alternative. I get that.
[Haymitch scoffs] Yeah, I heard some people actually prefer this craphole to their real worlds.

You have everything provided to you in this place and it's never boring. It's just the uh.... random crap and the whole emotional manipulation that pretty much blows, I guess.
no subject
I'm not a big fan of manipulation of any kind. [Unless he's the one doing the manipulating]

You'd be surprised how many people are just from slight variations of the planet Earth around here.

[leans in a little with a DRAMATIC HUSHED VOICE LIKE IT'S SOME BIG SECRET. He even has his hand up and everything.]
Have you met any of the aliens yet?

[And now you're a crazy person]
Oh....kay. I think we've had enough of a chat now.
