16 - fury of the night
[Something was wrong.
There was always something wrong with the castle. The strange building never seemed logical to him, much less natural. Even so, he kept this foreboding feeling in mind, and he'd tread through the castle cautiously, looking for the source.
First, he saw Zelman, out cold. And a sick sort of scent came from him that made even Toothless hesitant to investigate.
And then, the next day, he saw it.
He'd watched it, and his instincts told him, this was bad. It smelled the way Zelman had, but stronger.
It engaged him, and Toothless snarled and growled, striking out at the thing but never hitting it. But he dissuaded it, and it left him there, slightly rattled.
After watching to make sure it hadn't come back, Toothless turned and trotted off quickly. He didn't know what it was, but there was a definite sense of danger attached to that thing. He had to make sure that all his friends were unharmed and safe.]
((Here's a long overdue Toothless going to check on his friends post! In general, if Toothless has threaded with your character at least three times, you will doubtlessly find yourself cross-examined by a night fury. That being said, he'll probably secondarily check up on the people he's seen at least twice as well.))

She snorts and continues pacing, even as she scolds herself. Not much point in worrying if you don't even know what the source of the problem is - not that it lessened the worry or anything.]

Greetings, Toothless. There is something ahoof, is there not?

What is the matter? [she begins her own examination of him. No visible wounds, no magical energy (at least, no more than the usual castle levels), and - she sniffs harder, eyes narrowing. That slight whiff of something that's distinctly not Toothless.]

The worst part of it all was that the smell lingered everywhere. It made it impossible to tell where it was, or where it would strike next.]

Nonetheless, she affects an aura of calm and leans in to give the dragon a nuzzle.]
Do not fret. I believe we shall get to the bottom of this. [a sly smile. There's something to be said about the supreme confidence of goddess-princesses.
Once she figures out it's not all in her head, at any rate.](no subject)

Though, he hadn't much luck finding whatever it was, and in the end figured he just needed the fresh air. Which is why Rookie would be on his way towards the lobby, at the moment.]

Not your usual way of greeting. [Rookie glances up, canting his head to one side.] You okay?

Hey, hey. Easy. It's okay. [He'll look towards the direction the dragon had been staring at prior, only to peer back down once more.] What's got you so nervous?

'Course Dairine had written it off as stress related anxiety… or so she hoped.]

Right now, he's in the library just wasting time with books on boring military stuff he doesn't think is boring at all. It's actually a good thing he doesn't follow everyone's shit in the journals, because if he knew the crazy space lobsters were around here somewhere, he'd default to shoot first, ask questions later mode.
And that never ends well.]
gahh I love these twos' shenanigans so much
