[Now that she'd completely gutted the apartment suite that she and Ezio share, and given it all the riches the two of them had become accustomed to growing up, she spends most of her time there. And lounging in front of a fire with a good bottle of wine, and classic poetry, is definitely the way to spend an evening.

And like all good evenings, it's the duty of an older brother to make himself a nuisance

Not now, Ezio.

[today one can find Dextera in the library but he's not reading this time. he's actually playing chess with himself, thanks to the castle giving him a chess set as a Christmas gift.

...it's strange. playing by himself like this didn't feel "new" like most things did. lonely, sure, but not "new".

eventually he decides to ask a little about this and writes in the journal.]

What does it mean when you feel like you've seen something before but can't remember it? I forget the word.

[ooc: open via journal or in the library. replies might be slow from me for awhile :) and if you're wondering, that chess set is the one that Dextera and Thirteen used as kids. ...not that Dextera can remember.]

Can't help but feel like my time here's just been wiped. It hasn't been as long as some, but six months is the longest I've been in one place since my parents died.

I'm back to making the lab equipment. Paris was a nice break, but it's nice to be back. Think I'm going to be spending some time in the library. Those haven't been wiped, right? [Hopefully.]

Conan-kun? Ai-chan?

....

...I'm sorry I haven't been around all that much. I came down with a cold, and I think it turned into the flu. I didn't want to get either of you sick.

[This was a lie. She had cooped herself up in her room so she could angst over the unsurprising disappearance of Shinichi after Paris. She didn't want anyone to see her upset, though...so a little white lie wouldn't hurt anyone, would it?]

I'm feeling much better, now! Please let me know everything's ok?

[It's the middle of January. Molotov has heard that some people were getting gifts, but she figures that, by this point, it'd have been impossible to not have found hers. So clearly she's not getting a gift.

That's fine. Molotov doesn't really care, and there's just not really anything she would have wanted from home anyway. So who cares?

She is hungry though -- it's late afternoon, and she skipped lunch. Molotov's in her kitchen (she doesn't see the allure of the communal one), journal open while she digs through cabinets. Settling on a new bag of potato chips, there's a rustling noise as she opens it, then a silence and a gasp.

And then a girlish, wholly un-mercernary-like squeal of happiness.

Merry late Christmas, Molotov.]

[This is all written, very legibly for all to see.]

During the latest expedition a letter was discovered, however with the world change and other, difficulties, I am only now sharing this with the castle at large. I do apologize for the delay.

Hello, travelers from a distant land,
We write out to you on behalf of Libet, home of many years
If these words are reaching you, we are already dead.

You see around you what the remains of a once grand and happy place.
On January 5th, our once-happy castle began to collapse.
It had grown tired of our need to grow beyond it.
It wanted to stay as it was, while we wanted progress.
It reminded us of our past experiences, and its history disgorged.
We long have feared that our paradise would die.
It seems so very weak these days.
It doesn't speak to us anymore.
We fear it soon will completely, collapse.

Though we wish it didn't have to come to this,
We are thankful for the time we've had.
May you still have many happy days ahead of you.

Love,
The Residents of Libet

((ooc: This is LONG overdue for information gained from the expedition. But with LJ being difficult as well as other things last month, I figured now would be a good time to share. Threadjacking/hopping/what have you is encouraged because, James really won't have much to say and wants to hear what you all think. Have at it!))

Hi everyone! Since the journals all got a clean out, I think it's time we make a good guide for all the newcomers to help clear things up! And since I'm a charitable guy with a lot of time on my hands, I went ahead and did it!

THE NEWGUY'S NEWCOMER'S GUIDE TO PARADISA!

by the great Professor Zelos Wilder!

1. Welcome to Paradisa! It's a magic castle in a magic world away from yours! You got kidnapped here and you're stuck until the castle takes you home or we find a way out ourselves!

2. Yes magic and sentient castles exist, for you skeptics out there. You get used to it!

3. Everyone is supposed to get a loss! It can be a memory, item or ability! Though I haven't found my loss yet so it's possible that some of us are just too amazing to get one heh heh heh.

4. The castle can give you most things you wish for! Though that doesn't include weapons or giant things or people. We're still working on if it's has biases in stuff like the best bread ever!

5. That room you probably woke up in? Is your room during your stay! If you didn't wake up in a room, look on the doors for a nameplate!

6. The kitchen is on the first floor! Though you can ask the ghost servants for food so I'm still not sure why you'd go all the way down there to get food, but there you go! The clinic's on the second floor! And there's a library...somewhere!

7. Sometimes the castle does crazy stuff! If a person is acting really weird, it's called a loss! I couldn't tell you why it's called that and I think it's really confusing, but when you're in Paradisa you do as Paradisans do! If we go to a different place, that's a world change!

8. No one really knows what we're doing here or why we were picked or why people show up when they do, but I'm sure there's theories abound. I think personally the castle has good tastes- there are a lot of pretty looking people here!

9. Death only lasts two weeks here, but I haven't seen it for myself yet. Kiiinda hoping it doesn't happen that often that I'd have to put it to the test.

10. When you get sent home, your memories get wiped! So don't be surprised if you show up here and there's some beautiful hunny demanding where you've been. Just count yourself lucky that some darling lady has missed you so! Unless of course, her way of missing you is to be violent when you show up again. Also, time works kinda funny here so don't be surprised if your buddy is from the future or the past. It happens!

Well...that's all I can think of so far and ten is a nice number to leave off! But if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask~!

Everyone he's sending a gift to )

[After scrawling that message in the journal, he leaves Chimera HQ with a wooden box in his hands. The top is open, and a piece of cloth is draped across is, concealing the contents from view. He handles it carefully as he walks. It had taken several months of assembly and experimentation to get this to work correctly, and sadly the trip to Paris, as welcome as it had turned out to be, had delayed his progress quite a bit. But it was finished at last, and he could finally deliver it.

Hopefully he'd make it to his room without incident

[the crisp, dry rustle of pages, a slurp of liquid, and a quiet cough precede Ray's voice piping up into the journal]

So, hey, tomorrow's Friday the 13th. Back where I'm from, it's a day full of all kinds of superstitious implications, so I figured it might be a good idea to tell you all a little bit about it in advance. Not much advance, I know, but -- I just realized it was gonna be the 13th this morning, so - I've been refreshing my memory.

The whole superstition isn't as old as it could be, really. The earliest written record of it, in English, anyway, was in the journalist Henry Sutherland Edwards' biography of a composer named Gioachino Rossini, in 1869. It was the day the guy died, and in mentioning it, Edwards basically said it was a confirmation that the day was unlucky. Why it didn't show up in writing before then is anyone's guess, though, because there are scads of reasons why 13's an unlucky number. To start with, in numerology, 12 is the number of completeness: Jesus had 12 apostles, there were 12 high gods on Mount Olympus, there are 12 hours on a clock, and 12 tribes in Israel, among a bunch of other things. It's probably why baked goods traditionally come in dozens, too. There's a related superstition that having 13 members in a traveling party is bad luck. [another sip of his tea, and he keeps right on rambling] As for how Friday works into it? That started showing up in old wives' tales around the mid-seventeenth century - that's the 1600s for those of you keeping track. That links back to the Bible, too, though, since a lot of the more unlucky events are purported to have happened on Friday. Christ's crucifixion, Noah's flood, and the temptation of Adam in the Garden of Eden are three of the biggies. And to top it all off, the mass arrest of the Knights Templar is rumored to have been on a Friday the 13th, too. Which ... is really kind of funny, when you think about it, because Friday's named for Freya or Frigga, the Norse mother goddess, wife of Odin. Though really, depending on who you ask, Frigga and Freya are two different godesses, or they could be aspects of a Triple Goddess, or just the same woman with different names ... [AHEM] Anyway, NOTHING to do with the Bible, Norse goddesses. Not a thing.

So that's where the superstitions came from, but what exactly ARE they? Both Fridays AND the thirteenth of a month are rumored to be really nasty choices as far as when to start a new project, or move, or basically change a routine. But generally, it's just a big catch-all for bad luck. A lot of black cats and dogs crossing your path, ladders to walk under, cracks to step on, that sort of thing.

I know, it doesn't sound like much in the scheme of what Paradisa throws at us, yeah? But consider this: fear of Friday the 13th - or paraskevidekatriaphobia, from the Greek - was reported in a sociological study to be the most commonplace phobia in the United States. There's scientific evidence to back it up, too: hospital admission as a result of a transport accident statistically increased by as much as 52 percent on Friday the 13th. So it's no wonder a lot of superstitious people stay at home when it rolls around. ... Honestly, though, as with any type of luck, a lot of it's all will and thought-based. Keep your thoughts positive, and you should be just fine. Oh, and hey - if you're Chinese or Egyptian? Don't worry about it so much. In those cultures, thirteen's actually a lucky number.

Once again, I'm Dr. Ray Stantz, it's been a pleasure enlightening you all. If you've got any other questions, I'll be here in the library.

((OOC: And now, like a good researcher, I cite my sources. About.com | Wikipedia (with use of outward links for Freya, Edwards & Rossini) | Snopes THANK YOU AND GOODNIGHT.))
