assassino: (curious ❧ from the house down the road)
[personal profile] assassino
[Written, for once! In large, looping letters, to boot.]

What is this shit?

Is there a reason we have been silenced?

After midnight... )

[Later... Written with an agitated hand (or maybe that's just his handwriting).]

Should have been careful about wishing for peace and quiet.

[...Nope. Not as funny on paper. Besides that, his hand hurts. It'll be easier just to check on a few rooms in person to see if they're alive; and if he runs into whatever is causing this on the way, even better.]

[At first, Faye thought it was just her. When she awoke and her usually audible yawn was strangely silent, she figured perhaps she'd just lost her voice. She can't for the live of her figure out why she'd lose her voice; perhaps she'd come down with something.

It's not until she leaves her room that she realizes that it's eerily silent. Normally she can hear the voice or two of people meandering through the halls of the castle, but this morning? Nothing. It's a little worrisome, to say the least.]

So, it looks like the castle is messing with us again, doesn't it?
strangewonders: (curious)
[personal profile] strangewonders
[There's some horrible chicken-scratch in the journal. It might be easier to read if you squint. Or turn it sideways. Or maybe upside down.]

Well, someone's having a bit of fun at our expense [expanse?]. It could be the castle, or it might be someone else mucking [mocking? mimicking?] about with things they shouldn't. Either way, I'll be up in the library looking for a way to fix it before the townspeople [tower? towtruck? torrential?] riot. You can thank me later.

[London is frustrated by her lack of voice, but for some reason, she can see the fun in it.]

Did the cassle take everyones voice away? Oh well. I gess I can still feel like the little mermaid!

Exept she coudnt write.
not_nikkiheat: (you have got to be kidding me)

[Kate's handwriting is neat and precise, with very little femininity to it. Right now, she's all business.]

Mark mentioned safety plans the other day, and I know we've discussed it before. I think we should establish some safe zones for evacuation, just in case. This voice thing is giving me the creeps, and it's been a while since something catastrophic happened. I think we're due.

So we need safe areas and people in charge of getting others to those areas. Any volunteers?

[ The following words are written neatly with a hint of annoyance behind them.]

I see I am not the only one who has been struck with a sudden case of laryngitis.

That is a relief. For a moment I thought the castle was starting to victimise me for some reason.

I have examined several people now, and there does not seem to be any medical reason for our sudden bouts of silence. Everything still appears to be intact, it just... does not work properly. That does not rule out the possibilty of some sort of disease, but we're not... broken, I suppose I would say.

Of course, whenever something like this happens, my first thought is "the castle did it", but I am puzzled as to why it felt the need to silence us.

[No voice, but that should be surprising no one by this point, however the panicked handwritten scrawl across the page might be new. It was not neat or crisp or clean as usual it was jagged like someone trying to adjust to a foreign limb writing rather than their usual hand.]

WH AT HAP PENED?

[The letters were spaced oddly and off center, pressure so hard that the pen was leaving a spreading ink splotch on the page. Hasty turning of pages and a sharp rasp followed. Red dripped to the white in tiny blossoms of red. Blood drips, tiny and nothing remotely more than an annoyance and certainly nothing that should have resulting in the terrified sound of scrambling that came after.

Paradisa, for those of you wandering around the quiet castle today especially those near dark corners you might see a darting figure moving and trying to stay to the shadows. Long blond hair and pale skin..a whole lot of pale skin as she’s naked. Humanity picked a hell of a week to hit Texas.]

Filtered away from anyone who would use this information for harm: I know everyone is frightened that this might be the start of something big and bad - I am, too. But like Phoebe said, we need to work together. I've only been here for a couple of months and a lot of you probably don't know me - name's Meg, by the way - but I'm not going to sit by and do nothing when I know I can help others.

I'll dispense with the details in the interest of time, but I've got certain abilities and I can offer physical protection. That bit about "looking in windows, knocking on doors" is creepy as hell, but at least the library doesn't have a lot of those. If anyone else wants to gather to discuss possible plans and research what might be going on, I'm going to do my best to secure an area in here that will be easy to guard.

Filtered to anyone in the library: Hey everyone. Sorry to interrupt, but I'd like to rearrange things a bit for extra security. By all means, keep doing what you're doing - but I'd suggest moving to the center of the room.

[Anyone who has their journal open will hear a lot of creaking and a few minor crashes coming from the library, and anyone in the room will see Meg shifting the big, solid wood shelves that make up the labyrinth of the library to form a large perimeter that provides access from only one entrance in the front, with two more shelves in place to slide over and block them in completely if need be.

A few of the smaller shelves are positioned to block off a couple of quiet corners where people might be able to sleep if they want to, and some of the cozy chaises, couches, and chairs are arranged within. The shelves face inwards so the books are accessible, and she's done her best to maintain some resemblance of organized sections. Two of the larger tables are positioned in the middle, surrounded by chairs and ready to be used for any groups who want to research possible causes or perhaps make tactical plans.

Those who are listening might be concerned or confused by all the noise, and those present has just seen some incredibly powerful telekinesis at work. As far as Meg is concerned, they can deal. This is her, looking out for the greater good, and for once not being stifled by mistrust.

She sighs and lets herself collapse into one of the nearby chairs, kicking her feet up on the the edge of the table to relax and catch her breath. That much action is taxing, even for a powerful demon. Still - it looks good and secure, and if it helps even a single person here, it was well worth the effort.

She'll be more inclined to fight with her powers, but she's packing the pistol Lara gave her and the dagger from Katniss just in case. She smiles to herself and picks up her journal again.]

Good to go, everyone. Anyone who is staying in the castle is welcome to come hang, whether you want to help figure out what the hell is going on, or just want protection. And hey, if you get bored, at least you can read.

Whatever you're doing, stay safe.

[UPDATES]
Day 2 Announcement

Patrols, anyone?

Day 3 Meeting

Share information with those in the library

Day 2 message: Filtered away from anyone who would use this information for harm:
Given what has happened, I'd like to remind everyone that we have a large area of the library blocked off with plenty of people willing and able to defend those who might be frightened and vulnerable.

It's safe to say we know what's happening now, and that everyone here is in very real danger. We'll be organizing patrols and continuing our research, but we're also happy to protect anyone who is frightened. It's not much, but there are couches and plenty of books to keep you busy.

We've determined that this is likely some kind of twisted nursery rhyme or fairy tale come to life. Where I'm from, the stories behind those are almost always based in truth, and that seems to be the case here as well. We're working hard in here to try to find it to see if there are answers on how to stop what's happening.

Any outside information or help is welcome. If you have heard of any lore - most likely a children's story - that has to do with an entire area or a town losing their voices and people having their hearts ripped out, let us know. It might help us figure out how to stop this, if we can at all.

Filtered to children and those who are looking out for them: Are the kids all safe? If you're scared and you need somewhere to go, you can come to the library and we will take care of you.

Day 3 message: Filtered away from anyone who would use this information for harm: If anyone has seen the attackers firsthand or has any other helpful information, please let us know so we can keep trying to piece together what they are and how to stop them. Remember, the library is being protected and you are more than welcome to come, whether you'd like to help research or just stay here with us for safety.

[A pause as she taps her pen on the page of the journal. Compassion was coming a little more easily to her after being shown so much of it by her new friends here, but it still takes her a moment to phrase it properly.]

Condolences to those who have lost someone they care about.

[Phoebe's handwriting is, thankfully, very legible as she takes pen to paper today. She knows Kate had already mentioned something about an evacuation plan but she's the one who's meant to be in charge of Code Blair and she's been slacking in her responsibilities with it too much lately. It's time to take action.]

This is Phoebe Halliwell.

I know things are very confusing right now but now is not the time to be passive. All of us who have been here for some time are probably thinking the same thing: "What's next?" Losing our voices is probably only the first step in something bigger... maybe even something worse. I'm not trying to scare anyone, I just think we need to be ready in case for when something does happen.

Mark asked how evacuation plans were going and Kate asked if there was one and I think I should apologize. It's partly my fault that there isn't a plan that everyone knows about or at least something so that people have a solid idea what to do if something happens. Code Blair had fallen to me after Alan and Steve left and I haven't been doing a very good job running it so far. This is going to change starting now. I know that a lot of volunteers have left and that there are a lot of new people here who probably have no idea what I'm talking about but here's the plan:

Anyone who doesn't feel safe in the castle right now is welcome to move to one of two safezones set up. The closest is Caritas in town. It has a protection spell on it that will keep you safe. The other is the Outpost on the edge of the Dead Zone. Personally I'd recommend going to Caritas because we don't know what's going on yet and being further away from the castle might not be the best idea right now.

I know there are plenty of people out there who want to keep this castle and the people in it safe. Whether you want to actively volunteer to help with Code Blair or if you're just working on your own I don't care. Just be aware that generally things the castle throws at us are defeated by residents working together. We're stronger together than anything this place can throw our way - it just needs to be reminded of that once in a while.

If there are any children in the castle who don't have family or someone to keep them safe let me know and I will either find someone to look after you or I'll take care of you myself until this is all over. No one should be alone right now. I don't know how many of us had that dream but "can't even shout, can't even cry" sounds ominous as hell and I know I don't plan on going anywhere alone til this is all over.

We're going to need some way to relay messages quickly between volunteers. If there are any telepaths or someone with abilities that might be able to help it would be greatly appreciated. I don't know Morse Code but that might come in handy if there are enough people who do.

Above all the most important thing is to stay calm and remember that we'll get through this, no matter what it is. Don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it. We're in this together.

[Added in not too much later:]

I've been told that some people are talking about barricading themselves in the library so they can stay safe while they research what's going on. I think that's a fantastic idea and definitely something to keep in mind - especially if you want to help figure out what's going on here.

[written in his regular handwriting]

This is Django. Please tell me if you can hear this.

[At first he blows into a harmonica, just a test blow. Then he resumes to play a small tune a bit louder]

Even if we can't speak, we can still make noises--a good way to alert each other. Watching the journal all day is dangerous and not fast enough to say you're in trouble.

A whistle would be good. You can wear it around your neck.

[There is a short pause and an ink splot, since he hovered his pen before adding a side note]

Don't abuse it. You might die.

[Filter to the library group]

I'm going to be joining soon. Mostly for guarding. I can bring some bells. So if someone finds something everyone knows it's info, not danger.

[Added in on the morning of Day 3]

[He blows into his harmonica softly to not be annoying but get some quick attention]

Are there any doctors who are willing to examine the deformed men in straitjackets? Some are defeated/dead (x). Maybe more around the castle.

Either way keep an eye out for them. They are related to this incident.

[Thorin's handwriting is...decent...some of his letters resemble Dwarvish runes, but are readable enough. Some of the words are scratched out, as he would occasionally catch himself writing in the language of his people: Khuzdul.]

What madness is this?? What is a king without his voice? Who's responsible for this? He'll face the sharp end of my Orcrist for this!!

Has the castle done this? Is this how it has chosen to punish us for the vandalism it suffered? That's it! I know it!! I knew the castle would punish us for the destruction!

Someone will answer for this, heed my words! No one silences Thorin Oakenshield!! As long as I must suffer in this silence, I will be sharpening my weapons so that I am ready when the guilty party is revealed...
