Consider this your heads up. March 31st, I'm throwing a party. Lana's restaurant -- you know the one. In town, kind of a quaint little Italian joint? Show up if you want. There'll be drinks, a bonfire -- ooh, maybe cake. It'll be great. Be there or be ... well, lame for starters.

Wes, you're not on the guest list. [ Y e p. Marvel at Damon's maturity. ] Everyone else? Party at will. Starts at 8.

[ ooc; I'll be putting up a log for the party on the 31st! Anyone who feels like having their character come is free to, you don't need CR with Damon or Lana. ]

[ There's a drawn out pause, almost like she might have just shut her journal. But she's just taking a minute. Even thinking about it, let alone referencing it, makes her heart race in that sickening way. She needs a minute to cool off so she doesn't bite his head off. ]

I found a nice looking place when I wasn't with you. It was by accident, actually, and it's unoccupied. But it has a cute Victorian flare.

That's ... thoughtful. [ Omfg how does he shot handling people doing nice things. ] How far?

The opposite end of town from where I live, on the other side of the castle. It's actually nestled in the business district. Let me know when you two want to go look at it.

You accidentally stumbled across a house across town that you think Stefan and I should pile into.

It's in the business district, so yes I was in the area and not currently looking at houses. But I noticed it had boards over the windows, so I checked it out.

[ Of course she actually WAS looking at places across town, anyway, which is a big reason why she likes this place so much. But it's also cute! ]

It's been neglected, but nothing that can't be fixed for free by a couple of super vampires. If anything, it's lack of upkeep will only help you financially, and people in the city look kindly on building repairs here.

... Yeah, all right. We can take a look before we set up for the party.

We're gonna need to sublet the place from you. I'll make sure you get paid the amount it's worth, but the deed needs to be in your name. Keeps out the undesirables when they need an invitation.

What? I'm not sure that's a good idea. Can't you ask Elena? Is she eighteen?

I'm not asking Elena, Lana. I'm asking you.

What does Stefan say?

Then the answer is no until you do. Because I'm sure he'd prefer Elena for that sort of responsibility.

Well, this isn't just his decision. And I'd prefer you. Besides, him and Elena are all turbulent right now. His moodiness is making it complicated, and I'm not interested in entering that into the equation. So, will you or won't you?

[ What on earth would he say to describe his friendship with Lana? ]

I'll think about it. But I don't like the idea, and even if I agree, I won't do it without his okay. [ Because he's terrifying, ssshhh. ]

I don't get what the big deal is. I'm pulling for the place you wanted, far away from you, and all you have to do is put your name on a piece of paper so vampires need to ask nicely to come in. And, yet, for some reason, it's giving you an aneurism.

Yeah, I know. I was there for that. But now you're going to tell me why.

Because he scares me!

Good. You're smart. You should be scared. Vampires have speed, strength, and endurance like you can't imagine. Not to mention the compulsion. We could snap your neck like it's a toothpick and not feel a thing.

That's why you take vervain. That's why you stay on your guard. That's why I gave you part of Alaric's arsenal.

It's not vampires I'm afraid of; it's Stefan. And none of what you said matters. I can't help it. I...freeze up around him. [ And feels like she might throw up, and she just wants to run the other way like a chicken, even if she never would.

Well, unless he was chasing her again. Damn, nightmares ahoy! ]

The Valentine fiasco only made it worse.

[ He's silent for a long moment as he processes that. ]

... You're not going to like what I'm about to offer. But, I have to ask.

[ And she'd slap him for even thinking it if she was there. ]

Good answer. Compulsion's messy. Besides, it takes forever for vervain to get out of your system. [ It's pretty genuine. He makes it sound casual but he's ... really relieved. He doesn't ever want to compel her. But, he doesn't know how else to help. So, he takes his best swing at reassurance. ] I keep an eye on him. Stick with him. You don't have to be alone with him.

[ It's not like she hasn't entertained that idea on her own late at night while trying to go to sleep. There are countless other horrible memories she could lose, and be happier for. But having had the time to think about it is the reason it's such an easy answer now. ]
