Maybe that it's because it's so close to him having been here a year now that he's finally decided it's something to be faced. After all, everypony should be allowed to wonder where they came from, right? He heaves a heavy sigh, his claw tracing faint lines on the journal page]

What does family mean to everypony- I mean, everyone here?

[Of course, he already KNOWS the ponies are his family. He reached that conclusion a while ago, living in this weird little world. He dithers over this next question. He almost doesn't want to ask it. As if he'd appear ungrateful for everything she's ever done for him. And she really has done everything for him. Still. It can't hurt to ask, right? Right?]

[ Gwaine is very, very quiet. He has no answer to the question. He has the memory of his mother and sister, the image his mind has conjured of the father he never knew, but he has been without them for a long time. He still finds it difficult to recall anything without the anger- and hurt-filled filter of their separation.

Well, gee, Spike... I think family means the group of people who help you through things. The people you share everything with - both the good times and the bad.

They're the people who make you feel like you're home when you're with them, no matter where you are.

I think that too. I mean, I know who my family are, even if we don't even belong to the same species. They're where I belong.

I just wish I knew where I came from, too.

But a family can be someone who aren't actually related to you, right?

Family are the guys who would love you no matter what you do. The ones who understand you the best and stick up for you, just as you'd stick up for them. The fellows you wouldn't mind sharing your personal space with, 'cause you're just tight like that.

Yeah! That's exactly how I feel about when it comes to the ponies.
