Alright. I know there's been talk about a book club or whatever for a while. But, like a lotta things here, it seems like a lot of "we should" and "we'll do" and not enough "let's DO this."

So. This is me. Doing this.

I found a book in the library that looks pretty cool and if anyone else wants to read it, too, just let me know and I'll have the ghosts bring you a copy. It's called Ego and Enmity and the Undead. So, what do you think? Any takers?

[did you miss the "wiped out a planet" part, Nora? priorities, you have them]

And that's only a sampling of what he's been known to have done.

Mathematics, believe it or not. Quantum mathematics. He manipulated just the right equations, and ... the entire planet ceased to be.

[wryly] Incentive to stay awake in algebra, isn't it? ... [he sighs] Yes. Quantum mathematics is ... well, the simplest way to explain how the computers at Logopolis functioned is this...

Alrightsothereisn't a simple way to explain how the computers at Logopolis work. Just --- nnh.

[he frowns. he'd never say it aloud, because he knows how sensitive Nora is to things like this, but it's like explaining television to a caveman, in a way. humans of her time just aren't ready to comprehend the complexities of the block transfer computations of the mathematicians of Logopolis.]

Quantum mechanics posits that there are infinite versions of infinite universes, all existing at the same time. It's how we can be here in Paradisa, and frozen in time back in our own worlds all at once.

[he pauses to allow her to register that, then continues] Now, picture one of those versions of a world as a painting, or -- or a poem written in pencil. Yes, that's a bit better, let's go with that. As long as the words exist upon the page, the world is there - it turns, it functions, each line is a year in the life, each word a person with breath and memories and loves and strange quirks about their eating habits.

Now ... in another world, in another layer ... you have someone with an eraser. What do you suppose happens when they put it to that page?

[another pause, this one a little heavier, a little longer - and far more serious, because this is where he prepares to drive the concept home. and it's not a pretty one]

On Logopolis, it wasn't a case of words on paper, but numbers in a computer. The mathematicians of Logopolis could either create or destroy.

And the Master cheated his way into their fold, gained their trust, and wielded that eraser in a way no one should have the right to do.

[he can hear in her voice that she understands, and nods even though she can't see] Yes.

Well ... I suppose that depends. Would you be able to still carry on normal conversations with him, knowing what you know now?
cricketycricket: (- unmovable -)

o.O

Well, then, keep the conversations as light as you can, if he does approach you again. Don't deflect, though. He sees through that as easily as anything. You're strong-willed, though - you shouldn't have any problem keeping him from manipulating you.

You're quite welcome, Nora. If you need any help at all ... don't hesitate to find me.
