Sixteenth Spell

[Hermione has taken her radio down to the music room. Hard Harry suggested they use it to broadcast music. So she is going to do just that. She taps the radio until she gets a good frequency, then begins to play the piano.

It's a simple piece but she still sounds a bit out of practice. Not much chance for music when you're on the run]

It's very lucky I live on a floor near the library.

[gunslinger]

Yeah, likewise, when I stay there. I mean it's just one floor up. I camped out in there once, though!

So... you don't live in the castle?

[gunslinger]

I tend to go back and forth between the city and the castle, but right now my pets are at the house so I spend more nights there.

[courageous_wit]

Is it very hard to find a place in the city?

[gunslinger]

Well, that depends. I didn't actually buy this place. We...inherited it, I guess, from a previous resident who used to live here.

I don't think renting in the city is hard at all if you don't mind asking the castle for money. If not, then you'd probably need to get a job first. I don't really know if there's an age limit, either.

I don't mind hard work if it comes to that.

[gunslinger]

Why, are you considering moving, or do you just want a job?

[courageous_wit]

No. I just want to understand more about this world in general.

[gunslinger]

Well I guess I'm not a pro at Paradisa real estate. You could probably filter to other people who live in the city and find out more, if you really wanted.

[ It doesn't interest him much. Probably one of the few things about this world that can be added to that 'Whatever' list. ]

Where did you learn to play the piano, anyway? Did you just start learning?

I think I will. Thank you for the tip.

I took lessons a long time ago.

[gunslinger]

A little rusty, then?

[ He's blunt, but he doesn't mean any insult by it. He got rusty on his harmonica in his teen years, actually. Practice makes perfect! ]

I think you should keep playing. Maybe try to make a weekly thing of doing this. You'll get feedback, and be able to express and enjoy yourself. Sounds like a win win.

I think I will. I remember Professor Dumbledore saying that music was a magic far beyond anyting we did at Hogwarts.

[gunslinger]

This Dumbledore guy sounds like a smart cookie.

He was a genius.

[gunslinger]

[ Was? Well, Jr.'s not about to pry. He doesn't know her well enough. ]

What kind of place was Hogwarts, anyway? That's a pretty...memorable name, if nothing else.

[ But he loves learning about other worlds too. :3 ]

Hogwarts is a school of witchcraft and wizardry, one of the best in Europe. It's a magical castle but it isn't anything like Paradisa.

We do have magical rooms that can only be accessed in certain ways, and we do have ghosts, and I suppose the castle is alive in a way. But it doesn't grant wishes and it isn't sinister.

[gunslinger]

Huh, really? Jeez it's kinda creepy how similar that sounds. But you guys just use it as a school?

[courageous_wit]

I read that Paradisa once mimicked Hogwarts, so perhaps the similarities are deliberate.

[gunslinger]

Oh that was before my time, then. Must be a big deal, though, if the castle took that much attention.

I assume more than just learning went on there.

[courageous_wit]

Quite a lot happened in the years I was at school. We had classes and sports like a typical school, but we had ghosts as well that were a lot more interactive than Paradisa's ghosts. The suits of armor were alive as well, and we had a poltergeist as well.

Then the students were often hexing each other in the hallway.

[gunslinger]

Sounds...exactly like what I'd expect out of a magic school.

[courageous_wit]

Yes. It was often chaotic, but they were still some of the best years of my life.

[gunslinger]

[ Hm, thinking about the Yuriev Institute. Fucked up, but at least until Sakura's death, he might agree. ]

So you graduated already? Professional sorceress or whatever?
