Um... I'm sorry I haven't really been around lately. I don't know if any of you know Peeta or heard him tell people what's happening but I didn't want you to worry.

[She takes a breath] In my world there's something called The Hunger Games. Every year two kids, a boy and a girl, are picked from each District to go to an arena and fight. [She pauses] There's only one winner... another girl from the Games I was in got here, Clove. She's what we call a Career. They train for years for the Games and volunteer to go.

I don't want her to know I'm here... at least, not yet. I've been staying with friends. I miss all of you, though. How have you been?

[Though she's not about to announce her presence she still misses talking to people. She hesitates a moment before picking up a pencil and writing a question]

What's your favorite flower?

Out on the grounds. My friend and I used to tend it together last year.

I was going to help one of my friends make a garden. I worked in the orchards back home.

That's fascinating. What sort of garden was it?

We were going to plant vegetables, maybe some flowers, too.

[hostess]

Would you be willing to help me with my flowers, too?

[fly_little_bird]

I would love to!

[There's a moment of hesitation before the writing continues]

But I shouldn't go outside right now.

Why is that? If you don't mind my asking.

[there's another pause]

There's someone from my world who might hurt me if they know I'm here.

Why would someone be coming after you?

There's a girl here who still thinks we're in the Games.
