Um... I'm sorry I haven't really been around lately. I don't know if any of you know Peeta or heard him tell people what's happening but I didn't want you to worry.

[She takes a breath] In my world there's something called The Hunger Games. Every year two kids, a boy and a girl, are picked from each District to go to an arena and fight. [She pauses] There's only one winner... another girl from the Games I was in got here, Clove. She's what we call a Career. They train for years for the Games and volunteer to go.

I don't want her to know I'm here... at least, not yet. I've been staying with friends. I miss all of you, though. How have you been?

[Though she's not about to announce her presence she still misses talking to people. She hesitates a moment before picking up a pencil and writing a question]

What's your favorite flower?

Learned how to fight back. After the first two bullies got their butts handed to them, the rest thought twice about messing with me. [Unfortunately that made ALL her classmates kinda scared of her. But hey! At least no one bothered her anymore.]

But I'm glad that they stopped bullying you. No one should be mean to you like that.

Hey, slingshot is better than nothing. And you can do some pretty impressive tricks with one if you get good enough.

[Dairine puts the comic book down and sighs.] I wish they thought so too.

[She grins] I'm really good. I can hit most things the first try.
