[ Eh, so what if it's mid-winter and cold outside? It's always warm in the castle, no matter how many windows are kept open or the doors to the outside keep opening and closing. Magic, obviously. Kind of creepy, but it doesn't deter Kate from taking some time today to enjoy a nice swim in the pool. She has it all to herself right now, which is even nicer.

As usual, the journal is open at the side. ]

Seems after returning from Paris, any others who were brought here don't have any recollection of ever being in Paradisa. [ Only one, possibly. ] Doesn't make sense, but that's probably redundant.

It does seem like a shame though, when you've been here a while and then get sent home, only to be dragged back after some time. There's no guarantee on returning with your memories, so you could forget everything you've been taught or taught yourself. [ A beat. ] What would you miss?

I just hope that next time Paradisa pulls in a big batch of new residents, it picks nice, friendly normal people, and it skips over the mind-bending, transforming-demon lot entirely.

[gevurah]

The normal ones don't fare well. [ Or they eventually break. ] Though I could do without that lot, too. Or the ones who cite religious passages.

[supes]

Normal in the sense that they aren't prone to kidnappings and impersonations, I suppose.

Are there many religious people here? I don't run into them often.

[gevurah]

Father Abel comes to mind. Whoever else tends to the church?

Otherwise, it's hardly scary when you see quotes from the Bible in the journal. I noticed some crazies used to do it a lot.

I can't say I go often enough to see.

[Pause, considering.]

Did you meet "God", when he was here?

[gevurah]

I'd heard something about a resident claiming to be God.

[supes]

I met him once. It was a little unsettling... and frustrating.

[gevurah]

[ A pause. It's kind of weird and... awkward to acknowledge this. ]

In... person, you mean? Religion tends to affirm God is incorporeal. You know, part of the whole omnipresence thing.

[supes]

That's what I always thought, but in Paradisa he appeared as a black man. A little bit like Morgan Freeman.

[shrug]

If he was God, anyway.

Could be just a god. With all the different universes out there, it's hard to tell.

True enough. We can't tell with anyone, really.

He say anything to you?

Did the whole "I know all about you and your fiancée" thing for a bit, and I initially assumed he was just another person from our world waving it over my head, but I figured it out on my own. He said he was here by choice, supposedly, quote:

"Because some of My children are here and they are subject to as much suffering, pain and terror as those elsewhere. Turning a blind eye is something I don't do."

When I asked what he intended to do about the suffering, he said he'd "provide a helping hand" and then he just vanished. I didn't see him again.

Figured.

If I was religious, I'd be worried about God coming here of his own choice, then bailing on us. [ But that makes her doubt this guy's credibility. ]

Well, it certainly says something about God, doesn't it? He came here, did nothing, and then left, all supposedly by choice. That's not exactly the mental image most of us have.

[gevurah]

Think he felt "his" work was done here?

Maybe so. He arrived, the whole ordeal with Riful happened, things settled down again, and he vanished...

Working in his "mysterious ways".

[ Yeah, she thinks it might have been someone on a power trip. ]

Isn't that how they always describe it? [Hmm.] It makes you wonder, though. With interesting characters like Crowley here, God has to exist somewhere out there, in some universe.

[gevurah]

Would you want to know that or meet Him?

[supes]

[Considering pause.]

Sure, why not?

I don't know. That might open up more questions. Questions without answers.

Those are never fun. Surely if he were real and could talk about it, he WOULD have answers, though, right? We just might not like them.

It makes you wonder if sometimes you're better off not knowing.
