[ Eh, so what if it's mid-winter and cold outside? It's always warm in the castle, no matter how many windows are kept open or the doors to the outside keep opening and closing. Magic, obviously. Kind of creepy, but it doesn't deter Kate from taking some time today to enjoy a nice swim in the pool. She has it all to herself right now, which is even nicer.

As usual, the journal is open at the side. ]

Seems after returning from Paris, any others who were brought here don't have any recollection of ever being in Paradisa. [ Only one, possibly. ] Doesn't make sense, but that's probably redundant.

It does seem like a shame though, when you've been here a while and then get sent home, only to be dragged back after some time. There's no guarantee on returning with your memories, so you could forget everything you've been taught or taught yourself. [ A beat. ] What would you miss?

I first came to Paradisa when I was fourteen, and I've been in and out of Paradisa four times now –– I'm twenty-eight now. Paradisa might only make up three years of that, but I think I matured a lot faster in Paradisa than I did at home. A big part of it was getting to meet people from my universe who had high expectations for me, and getting to meet people from my future who could take my mind off of the little things so I could focus on... well, becoming me. So I think I'd miss the people most, the people who gave me those opportunities and pushed me to live up to myself. Those can't just be replicated the same way.

But I'd also miss the freedoms this place has afforded me. I've never had the opportunity to live in a place where I don't have to pick and choose between different identities... and outside of Paradisa, I know I won't get that opportunity again.

Despite the things Paradisa does, I'm happy here, but I know it's a fragile happiness.

Fourteen. [ She has to repeat it, because wow Clark you were a babby when you came here. She just can't place herself in those shiny red boots, practically growing up here. How different a person she could be. ]

I can understand that, though. You don't really want to be the one stuck with a foot in both worlds. [ That sort of hits home.

But gosh Clark. ]

I'd like to think so. How about you, Kate? Are you optimistic about this place? You've been here a long time now.

I think I've always been more of a realist, but some things... maybe. For the most part, if things end up turning out the way I didn't expect, I deal and carry on.

People, I guess. There are people here who understand me a hell of a lot more than most of the people I know back home do.

I don't know. Most of it was what I was on the way to figuring out back home anyway. Does 'be less of a bitch' count? Because I don't think I've learned that lesson completely yet.
