[Today will find Spike in the library, piles and piles of books about dragons in front of him as he tries to find some answers the castle doesn't seem to want to give him. His journal is open beside him as he dictates into it]

Man, there are no books in the library telling you how to be a dragon. It's all about dragons being evil and stealing princesses and stuff. What is with that? I mean, who'd tie some girl to a stake and say 'oh this'll get rid of the dragon, this is what he wants'. That doesn't make any sense. Nothing here paints dragons in a good picture at all, and I know I'm not the only dragon that doesn't want to stomp around eating people. It sucks.

[Siiiiigh] And I'm gonna have nightmares about this George guy for the rest of my life. Thanks for that, Paradisa.

[Page flip. Silence] Wait. Dragons have a year? What's that about? Are dragons supposed to be doing something special this year or something? Because I don't want to miss out on that.

I tried to see if there were any books on the weather in Paradisa, but I couldn't find any in the library at all. [His tone very much suggesting that him not being able to find a book is UNHEARD OF. It's one of those skills he's very proud of] There doesn't seem to be any books on Paradisa itself at all. It's really weird.

Well it's pretty much a variety of drinks that has a special something in it, that's called alcohol. Sugar gives you sugar rushes, right? Alcohol dulls down the senses, gets rid of nerves and generally makes you act in ways you normally wouldn't. You talk to girls when you're normally scared, find things more funny and overall it's supposed to make people feel good.

Buuuut, if you drink too much it can be a real problem- so that's why it's only for adults. We're bigger so we can drink more before it hits the bad point, and watch ourselves better. [well...in theory]

...So how old do you have to be before you can drink it? Because that sounds pretty good, I mean, I could have used it last week.

[wilder]

Uh- awhile. You probably wouldn't last a shot.

[Except the last part makes him perk up]

Which is why I know. Trust me, Spike. That kind of thing isn't good for a kid yo try. It just makes people act stupid.

And it's the kind of reasoning that it's better to tell him about now instead of letting him find out on his own when he reaches that age where he decides to stretch his wings. With how innocent he is, he'd trust anyone and could end up drinking way too much cause he doesn't know better and maybe waking up in some stranger's place with all his money gone and...well...something else you can't get back.

I'm not giving him any and I told him it was for adults only, so calm down.

Even one drink can affect the brain. It is a central nervous system depressant, after all.

And don't speak about children like we are nor here. It's pointless and annoying.

[Thanks for bringing the subject up. Now he had to seriously consider the prospect of explaining such things in a way that Spike could understand.]

If you're only going to regret saying things like that, why bring them up in the first place?
