98.3 - turn it on

[hard_talker]

[tonight's broadcast comes a little early, for the sake of the curious who like their sleep. Mark turns on his record player, and the broadcast picks up the scratch of the needle for a brief moment before Leonard Cohen's voice drifts over the airwaves. After a moment, he turns it down, but not completely off, and speaks over the music:]

So, not much goin' on in the halls of Castle Wonderfuck this week, besides the usual bullshit. The Host Club did their thing down in the ballroom, though yours truly didn't go. There's a poll up on page [this one] of the journal ... if you're bored and have a second, go check it out. We've only got one new guy, this week ... someone named Treebeard. I'll take bets on whether his parents were hippies or not, how 'bout you?

The real news tonight is a little on the self-promoting side. Yours truly, being of completely rational modesty, is holding an open broadcast forum down here in the ballroom! The accoustics are great, so if you're wonderin' how to work that brand-new shiny radio of yours, come on down and I'll show you the basics! And for those of you who know a little bit already, I've hauled down some of the more high-tech stuff you can add on to make things even more fun. So come down and spin some platters with me! Bring your favorite tunes and we'll get this castle up off its collective ass and rockin' out!

[and with that, he'll switch over from vinyl to CDs, and play this little number while he waits for people to show]

Hey, there! [Mark grins at her] You here to learn about the radios?

[Edward grabs the table, stopping her spin suddenly that she looks physically jarred by the jolt. She immediately sets to pulling wires and bits and bobs together.]

Radio-adio waaaaaaaaaves.

[hard_talker]

Huh! [he tilts his head, watching her] .... Looks like you know what you're doin'. ... Hey, you're that kid from Paris, right? ... Edward?

[jammin_with_ed]

[She pauses, grinning up at him]

Edward Wong Hau Pepelu Tivrusky the Fourth. Nice to meet yooouuu~uuuu! Edward's a Net Diver!

[hard_talker]

Heckuva name. I'm Harry. [he grins] Net diver, huh? I'm guessin' you don't mean fish. More like ... that internet thing?

[jammin_with_ed]

Edward made it up, you know. [She idly rocks back and forth]

Uh-huh! A hacker.

[hard_talker]

Seriously? So you know how all the CastleNet stuff works? I've bee trying to learn...

[jammin_with_ed]

Uh-huh! Edward can show you!

[She thinks for a moment. Suddenly her computer, Tomato, is sitting atop her head. She rushes closer, pulling it down and setting it on the table next to Mark. She presses a button and the screen raises, flickering to life.]

[hard_talker]

... Whoa, I've never seen a computer like that before.

[pardon him while he attempts to poke his finger through the screen]

[jammin_with_ed]

Edward made it!

[The image flickers as his finger goes through it]

[hard_talker]

No shit! That's awesome. From scratch? Or did you take apart a buncha other computers?

[that feels so weird. he's just gonna .... drag his finger around in that for a little bit. because, reasons.]

[jammin_with_ed]

[She shrugs] Edward wanted a computer but Edward didn't have a computer. So Edward took pieces of broken computers and relays that Edward found and made Tomato!

[hard_talker]

That's awesome! [he grins, checking the little computer out from as many angles as he can] How old are you? You're pretty damn smart, putting this together on your own.

[jammin_with_ed]

Edward's 13. [She grins as she watches him admire her work. When he looks back at her he'll see that she now has goggles sitting on top of her head, she plugs the cord into her computer with a grin]

Edward lived aaaaaall alone. So Edward figured it out so Edward could talk to people.

[hard_talker]

Yeah? ... That's pretty much why I got into radios, too. I only had my parents, and ... they didn't really get me. [he nods toward her goggles]

What're those for?

[jammin_with_ed]

Parents? [She blinks for a moment, like there's something she should remember. But the feeling passes and she shakes her heads with a smile. She slides the goggles down over her eyes and suddenly data starts flying across them. She just grins at him]

[hard_talker]

.... Whoa! [he tilts his head, staring in awe at the images flying across the goggles] Are those, like ... computer glasses?

[jammin_with_ed]

[She grins. She seems to be navigating around Castlenet without even touching the keyboard]

Uuuuh-huh!
