98.3 - turn it on

[hard_talker]

[tonight's broadcast comes a little early, for the sake of the curious who like their sleep. Mark turns on his record player, and the broadcast picks up the scratch of the needle for a brief moment before Leonard Cohen's voice drifts over the airwaves. After a moment, he turns it down, but not completely off, and speaks over the music:]

So, not much goin' on in the halls of Castle Wonderfuck this week, besides the usual bullshit. The Host Club did their thing down in the ballroom, though yours truly didn't go. There's a poll up on page [this one] of the journal ... if you're bored and have a second, go check it out. We've only got one new guy, this week ... someone named Treebeard. I'll take bets on whether his parents were hippies or not, how 'bout you?

The real news tonight is a little on the self-promoting side. Yours truly, being of completely rational modesty, is holding an open broadcast forum down here in the ballroom! The accoustics are great, so if you're wonderin' how to work that brand-new shiny radio of yours, come on down and I'll show you the basics! And for those of you who know a little bit already, I've hauled down some of the more high-tech stuff you can add on to make things even more fun. So come down and spin some platters with me! Bring your favorite tunes and we'll get this castle up off its collective ass and rockin' out!

[and with that, he'll switch over from vinyl to CDs, and play this little number while he waits for people to show]

[Mark's got a long buffet table at the back set up, covered in radio broadcasting equipment, from the standard radio that he issued everyone, to the stuff he used to use back home to do his broadcasts: tape reels, record players, tape decks, equalizer boards, channel mixers, microphones ... the whole nine yards.

and of course, every chair lined up behind the table is a spinny chair.

he's double-checking the audio in/out line from the equalizer boards once he finishes the kick-off to his broadcast, sitting on a large Coleman cooler. it's serving double duty as an ottoman and a container for large amounts of Wild Cherry Pepsi. come get your radio guru knowledge!]

[Felix isn't quite as interested in Mark's whole DJ bit, but the radios interest him. And, of course, indulging Mark a little wouldn't hurt. So he'll wander in shortly, poking around at some of the equipment with his usual casually interest air]

[hard_talker]

Hey, Felix! [he waves, finishing connecting the wires] C'mon over!

[lord_wizard]

[He smiled and wandered closer] I don't know how you keep all this straight.

[hard_talker]

Trade secret? [he grins and holds up a cable. There's a piece of paper tagged to it and "laminated" with Scotch tape that reads "AV In: Turntable"] ……… I label it all.

Action forever

[peeta_bread]

[Peeta had listened to Mark's broadcast, and decided to join him. He walks into the ballroom, carrying his radio with him.]

Hey, Harry!

[hard_talker]

Hey! [he grins, turning around - and the grin falters only slightly when he realizes it's an unfamiliar face. okay. he's definitely talked to whoever it is...]

Sorry, man, but - [he laughs a little] I've got no fucking clue who you are.

[peeta_bread]

Oh! [He laughs with him.] Sorry, I'm Peeta. I spoke to you after one of your broadcasts.

[hard_talker]

Oh! HEY! [his smile turns back to a full-out grin] Yeah, I remember you now. One of the new guys! How's it goin'?

[jammin_with_ed]

[Edward spins in one of the chairs, her eyes taking in eeeeeeeeeeeverything.]

[hard_talker]

Hey, there! [Mark grins at her] You here to learn about the radios?

[jammin_with_ed]

[Edward grabs the table, stopping her spin suddenly that she looks physically jarred by the jolt. She immediately sets to pulling wires and bits and bobs together.]

Radio-adio waaaaaaaaaves.

[hard_talker]

Huh! [he tilts his head, watching her] .... Looks like you know what you're doin'. ... Hey, you're that kid from Paris, right? ... Edward?

[Action]

[Dick knows how radios work, hell, he's already taken this one apart and rebuilt it with his own internal modifications, but he's curious about the broadcaster who had gifted them all with the short wave radios for Christmas, so he's down in the ballroom having a general look around.]

[hard_talker]

[Mark spots him and waves - even if he doesn't recognize him, he did invite anyone who wanted to see, so. no point in being rude!]

Hi there! How's it goin'?

[knightprodigy]

Can't complain [even if that would be the utmost worst question to ask him right now were he under the influence of Sodium Pentothal, but seeing as he's not he offers a friendly smile.]

Hey, um. You wouldn't happen to know who organised this thing, would you? [he's already recognised the DJ's voice from his broadcastings, but Dick wants to learn all he can about this man, his intentions - if any - malicious or otherwise, and introductions were key.]

[hard_talker]

Yeah, sure do. [he grins and sticks out a hand] That'd be me. Call me Mark when I ain't on the air, yeah?

[mal_addict]

...Eh, why not.

[And after a short while, being fashionably late as usuall, Mal shows up, peering at those radios]

[hard_talker]

Hey, Sarge! ... No imps in these. [he grins, twirling a screwdriver] Wanna see how they work?

[mal_addict]

Yeah, go on. Though I still think the lack of imps takes away something of the experience.

[hard_talker]

Honestly, if I'd been living with little dudes making all my stuff work, I'd think so, too. [he grins and pops the back panel off a radio]
