[this afternoon will find Murph out in the churchyard, keeping up with the small, spare vegetable garden the brothers have planted to feed themselves and their various coming-and-going visitors. there's the occasional spatter of dirt across the journal, but he's doing his best to keep it clean]

Anyone know what kinda stuff grows best aroun' here? I planted some stuff, but I dunno how it's gonna do. I know better... just 'cuz this place looks like home doesn' mean it's gonna behave like it all th' damn time.

No! [Still giggling. Give her a second. Okay she's done.]

Mostly just reading... and looking out the window at the trees. Sometimes people come and take me places but since I came back I don't want to worry everyone by leaving on my own again.

S'cuz they say one year in human years is like seven fer a dog. So a dog's age is somethin' that might not really be a long time, but it feels like it.

Well, we can certainly fix that right up, can't we? What kinda places do y' like to go? Could have ourselves a nice little outing.

Oooooh. I get it. [She grins, can't you hear how positively ecstatic she is?]

You mean it? I don't know, I like seeing everything. [She pauses] Maybe I could help you with what you're planting.]

[he can, and it's contagious] Y'know a thing or two 'bout gardens, then, do ya?

I do! District 11 where I'm from is the agricultural District. I used to work in the orchard. That's where I learned how to climb trees.

Orchards're pretty things. D'you miss it at all? [occasionally he misses the farm, but this place is too busy to be sentimental for too long]

Sometimes... I miss the work, and the trees.

[But not, you know, the barbed wire and armed guards]

Would'ja wanna help me plant a couple here, then? Dunno if we've the soil for it, but havin' an apple tree in a churchyard's got ...

[he chuckles, quietly, thinking of Crowley]

... well, it's got a certain bit'a humor to it.

It does? [so confused. How is an apple tree funny?]

But yeah, I'd like that a lot! When would you like to plant them?

Whenever you'd wanna come an' help, really. M'flexible. An' I can tell you all about the Tree of Knowledge, too.

[She thinks for a moment. Oh there can't be any harm in sneaking off for one day can there? She pulls her shoes on]

The tree of knowledge?

[And ever so quietly sneaking out of the room and heading down towards the lobby]

Aye, it's a story from th' Bible - the book about th' Lord I was tellin' you about, before. Part've the first story, even.

[She's down the tower stairs and heading towards the door, now]

Yeah? I'd like to hear more about that. It sounds interesting.

Well, then, I'd be glad t' tell ya. Could even give you a copy've yer very own, if you like.

[Out the door and starting to head down the path]

You mean it? I think I'd like to read that.

Aye, 'course I do. We've got plenty of copies here in th' church. I'll get you a spare. [he'll start cleaning up a bit so that he won't get dirt all over once he goes inside]

Thank you, Murphy! [Doot doot, walkin' down the path.] I've never read so many things until I came here.

[shall we skip ahead to once she gets there? he'll have found a spare Bible sitting around, and have it out on one of the pews, diligently rubbing wood oil into the pew across the aisle while he waits for her. idle hands, and all that]

[When she gets there she opens the door, peeking in]

Murphy?

Rue! C'mon in. [he turns and waves, already beaming at the sight of her. he's seen her a few times since, of course, but it still brings a smile to his face to see her out, about and well, considering how she arrived]

S'good to see ya again.

[fly_little_bird]

[her face lights up when she sees him and she rushes over to give him a hug. She never had a big brother but if she did she would have liked him to be like Murphy.]

It's good to see you, too.

[he'll gladly take that hug, too, then glance around, smiling] Did'ja bring a bag or anythin' with you? I've got that Bible for ya, but I didn' wanna hand it over if we were gonna go straight out an' start playin' around in th' dirt again.

[She nods] Uh-huh. [Letting go of Murphy she holds up her shoulder bag to show him] I brought a bag. It has some gardening stuff, too.
