Ponies and Doorways [Backdated to Yesterday]

[Vanyel was outside with Edge and their 'daughter', smiling as the little girl rode around him in a large circle on Yfandes' back, clinging to the more or less useless reigns. But that didn't worry Vanyel at all, since Yfandes would never let harm come to the little girl. She was also not an ordinary horse, so that helped things, and the little girl was strapped into the saddle like a Herald would be if they wanted to sleep while riding. She could no more fall off Yfandes than the moon could fall from the sky.

His little girl - and she was his, he had given up fighting that - squealed in delight when Yfandes pranced and tossed her head, hooves chiming. Of course, that squeal was loud enough for someone from ten miles away to hear it, but it hardly bothered any of the three, Vanyel smiling fondly at the little child having such a good time on what was to be her last day in Paradisa (this year, at least).]

[Closed to Van and Edge and Anyone They Specially Invited]

[Seeing the door made Vanyel's heart lurch a bit. It had only been a week, and perhaps Edgeworth had been more attached to the little girl than he was in the long run of things, but he cared for her. Personally, he was somewhat glad he had not come to cling to the child so, because it made this a little easier... but not much. He was trained enough in saying goodbye thanks to the duties of his job and the sacrifices he made, but again it made only a little difference as he watched Miles hug 'their' little girl.

It made a rather poignant scene, he had to admit, and his heart kept wrenching the longer the hug went. He had learned to cut himself off from the loses, to just... be away from them to ease them, wrap himself in ice. It made it so much easier, though few things hurt as much as losing Tylendel had. This, though... this came quite close. And when the little girl turned and went to hug Vanyel, he almost broke.

He knelt, wrapping her in his arms, looking over her silver head at Edgeworth, asking for the silent strength to get through this and open the door to send her home.]

ooc: come join the pony ride if you want :)
