[there is a pretty blonde girl lounging on the couch in the lobby, long ponytail draped over one of the arms of the couch. she's got a rather sketchy magazine in her hands and she's flipping through it boredly. the journal is lying carelessly open by her feet on the other end of the couch, so it picks up when she makes a comment]

Honestly, once you've read through a couple of these, it's kind of like you've read through them all.

[sighs, and flips a few more pages ...]

"Her hand being on top of his may signify some kind of power struggle in their relationship." ... What? [a small laugh] That's stupid. They're reading way too much into it ...

Yeah. He hunts demons, too. Like, the really huge, terrifying kind. But I guess the elevator was too much for him.

Fortunately, most here have borne my questions and misunderstandings with a great deal of patience.

Well, most people here probably asked the exact same questions you did when they got here. So I guess it's easy to sympathize.

True enough. There are specific questions one begins to expect from new arrivals.

Pretty much. I think I could greet a newbie in my sleep at this point.

I would say the same, but my presence seems to invite a great many more questions, depending on the nature of the arrival's world. [She should just write up an elf F.A.Q. at this point.]

Eh? Is it because you have magic or something?

[inafadingcrown]

Something akin to that. [Magic is still a confusing term, okay? Not sure if she counts as magic or not.] I am an elf, to put it plainly.

Ohhh. Yeah, I always hear people saying "but elves aren't real!" and stuff like that.

A great many seem also to expect me to be..."small and mischievous" is a phrase I have often heard.

[ino]

Yeah, I've met a little tiny guy with wings who called himself an elf, too. So I guess I can see how it'd be a bit confusing.

It is something I have always found curious- how words carry so readily from one world to another yet their meanings do not.

[ino]

But, at the same time, it seems like most everyone has something in common, too, no matter where they're from. It's kind of a weird dilemma.

I like to think there is something which binds us all- something of the spirit, perhaps.

[ino]

I guess that's a good way to put it. Most everyone can understand the basic stuff that plagues everyone. Love, war, that kind of stuff.

Precisely. And such things are, I believe, of far greater import than much that divides us.

[ino]

Yeah, exactly! Now if everyone else would just get that ...

Alas, it seems to be a rare understanding.

Guess so .... [a sigh] Still, it'd save a lot of stupid trouble around here.

[a bit of a scoff] Yeah, definitely elsewhere. But at least there's no, you know, full scale wars or anything going on here.

A welcome change for many of us.

Yeah, no kidding. But it also means a lot of people don't know what to do with themselves ... all the warriors who do nothing but fight, and all.
