[Waking up to the stark lights of a clinic is never a totally pleasant experience, and after spending precisely a year aboard a meteor in the time since she last recalls seeing Paradisa, it takes Rose several minutes to fully realize her surroundings. In fact, once she finally comes around, it occurs to her that maybe she never left at all. The meteor might have been some elaborate dream, induced by a bump on the head.

But if that were the case, she would not still be in her god tier garb.

The situation becoming completely clear to her, Rose reaches for the journal. She has no idea how long she's been out, and finding that out is the first matter of business.]

... Brushing aside the film cliche of this inquiry - would someone mind telling me what the date is?

[Kanaya wastes no time at all when she hears that voice.]

You're awake?

[Oh God she has never been happier just to hear a voice.]

John. I'm in the clinic.

I am, as of approximately two and a half minutes ago.

[She still feels extremely guilty over what happened. She briefly considers switching over to text, but decides that she cares too much to seem impersonal right now.]

I've been checking on you every day since you lost consciousness. I'm... really sorry for what I did. It was not my intention at all.

[ Woah!! WOAH. ]

Hold up, I am on my way right now!

[Rose could almost laugh.]

It wasn't your fault, Kanaya. In fact, I would actually like to thank you.

It reeks of a generic amnesia arc. But thank you very much for your help.

[Wait, what? Kanaya isn't sure she heard that right.]

Sure, no problem. Are you feeling okay, though?

Come by the clinic, and I can assure you that you'll learn the answer to that quite immediately.

[Rose may not be thrilled to find herself back in Paradisa, but the knowledge of much her situation has changed for the better since she was last here is almost enough to put a smile on her face.]

I'm feeling excellent, thank you. A week's nap seems to have been precisely what I was in need of.

[Rose]

It's okay, it'll only take a minute.

[ So sit tight, because John's already rushing down to where you are! ]

[Oh God why, she isn't mentally prepared for this. It's been so long since she's seen him, and she knows that as soon as he sees her orange hood he's going to be asking a lot of questions. For the time being, though, she just climbs out of bed and straightens out her clothes.]

Rose

Alright.

[And with that, the troll shuts her journal and heads downstairs to the clinic, not knowing quite what to expect. Needless to say, she's fretting quite a bit.

Rose can try to reassure her all she wants, but there is pretty much nothing she can say to assuage Kanaya's fears. But when she finally enters the human girl's room and sees her sitting upright in her bed with her god tier clothes, she's at a loss for words.

A rare event, of course.]

...How have you ascended?

[Rose is still looking pretty pleased with herself as she slips off of the bed and starts to collect her belongings.]

But...

[Kanaya still seems bent on trying to make sense of this herself.] You were always in that bed, though. I never once saw you leave!

[She helps Rose with her belongings, of course, 'cause no matter how calm and okay about this Rose is, she's still hella worried.]

[Rose takes a moment to think about how best to explain.]

It's a little like living in two places at once. Once in a blue moon, the castle will see fit to allow someone's consciousness a vacation home, of sorts, while they lie comatose in Paradisa.

[She pauses.]

In any case, you'll be interested to know that I've just come from the meteor.

[Ray's been checking on her ever since she got knocked out ... he's pretty sure what that sort of thing means, now. and when he comes in to see her today and realizes her clothes are different, W E L P]

Rose! You're awake! It's the last day of May, you've been out a pretty good while.

[he pulls up a chair and wishes her up a bottle of root beer. what, she's been out, she's probably thirsty]

How do you feel?

[Rose gives him a grateful smile, and takes the root beer. She's looking at him as if he's a very old friend - after all, she hasn't seen him in over a year. Between coming around in a strange room and trying to collect what she knows about this situation, it takes her awhile to answer.]

Ray. I'm feeling very well, thank you.
