paradisa | {{001. Disappointments

[Well, this wasn't supposed to be where he ended up. Not to say he was upset by it. Mildly confused and disappointed, maybe. Since his very recent arrival he'd already managed to free himself, disguise himself as a human, and discover his journal. By now he's been watching you for a short time, residents of Paradisa. Though at this point watching consisted of no more than flipping through mortal prattle in the journal and gaining an assessment of the most recent events. People missing, mirrored nonsense, nothing apparently relevant here as none of it seemed to answer what questions he had. Though he has been questioning the strange content filling itself out on a certain page around this time.

In fact, the journal seemed rather chaotic about now. Probably best to hold onto it for later. Instead Loki settled for making the most of his newfound freedom and looking around what appeared to be the interiors of... Well, what was this place?]

['sup Loki, 7'8" armoured space marine wandering around. Encased entirely in armour. He doesn't look like one you should mess with. Either way, he's slowly walking down the corridor towards the library.]

[Well, hey there Mr. Tall Robotic and Intimidating. Unfortunately he's seen bigger, and presumably stronger. Though he does give a wary glance. He supposes this is one of the first signs of the castle having (assumedly) a defense system or group enforcing it of some sort. He saw someone else in armor earlier, though smaller and on all levels more apparently casual. Were they associated?]

[Don't count the SPARTAN out before you actually fight him, Loki. He's hundreds of years beyond anything you'll come across.

As he passes, Jorge nods once.]

Sir.

[What's that? That's the sound of his ego and believing he can't be bested despite getting his ass kicked less than twenty-four hours ago. But, he's careful nonetheless. New world and all. He's a little put off by the nod, but gives one in return.] Ah. Hello. Are you on patrol..?

Patrol?

[A pause and Jorge stops.]

You're new around here, yeah?

Fairly recent, yes.

Welcome to Paradisa, then. And, no. Not patrolling.

So you make it a habit to walk around in your armor as well? [That is, assuming he's not a robot.]

Never know when it might be needed. Besides, this place can turn me into a regular human whenever it wants, so why have the hassle?

It can, can it? That must be... Unnerving. Does it change the physical beings of the people here as well?

[A slight head-tilt.]

Yeah. It turned my team-mate into a wolf once.

A wolf? It does this often, then. How do you change back?

The castle chooses when. There have been reports of losses happening a week, or longer.

'Losses'? Is that what they're called..? This castle is seeming less and less of a so-called paradise.

It's peaceful enough, but the wrong type of peace. It's sometimes too quiet.

[A pause.]

Or maybe it's just me.

From what I hear so far, it isn't that quiet. I'm sure everyone has had their own experience, however.

Oh, there's periods where nothing happens at all. Kinda makes me antsy.

I'm sure that it would just be resting and plotting its next thing to happen. You wouldn't be without the action for long.

I would prefer to be bored and have nothing else happen to the people here. Some have been through too much already.

There is enough to protect them, though, is there not? It is my understanding that people are surprisingly resilient.

Then what else is there to be worried about? If they can stand being torn from their homes or whatever fates awaited them, I'd think they'd be able to face anything, if not be grateful.

[There's a slight note of irritation.]

You're new here, and things might be different where you're from, but there are some people in the castle who have been tortured in their home universes. Brutally. They don't deserve to have to put up with what this place does to them.

This place grants them freedoms, no matter how brief, from what they were experiencing before. Does it not? I'm sure what the castle does will do nothing short of prepare them, or provide distractions of their previous suffering.

That's not the point. It shouldn't be short. Some of the people in question are kids. No child should be put through stuff like this place puts them through.
