[Ok, this whole books talking to him thing was really, really weird and he did not like it at all, but he didn't have much of a choice when it came to forms of communication. He had done a bit of exploring, tried to figure out just where he was while looking for Al. Hell, he was looking for anyone familiar. Clearly he was not succesful because the voice coming from the journal is loud and very, very irritated.]

First thing's first. I'm looking for my little brother. His name is Alphonse Elric, goes by Al. He's hard to miss, wears a big suit of armor. If any of you know where I can find him I'd appreciate it.

[He takes a deep breath.]

Alright, I have questions and I want answers. Now.

[Listen and be amazed as the tone of his voice goes from irritated to pissed off in less than .001 seconds.]

You don't age here. And when you leave... you lose your memories of this place. So it's like nothing ever happened.

[There's an uncomfortable pause, so he clears his throat.]

... Anyway. Everyone who comes here has a 'loss'. You lose something, but you'll get it back when you go home. It can be just about anything... a memory, an ability, an item... I can't yell anymore, one of my friends has no memories of his cousin, and another lost his teddy bear.

It's -- damn it, it's the watch I got when I became a State Alchemist. It's my identification and -- [just a long string of curses go here followed by something that sounds like "I'm going to kick their ass"]

At least you found out what your loss was. We couldn't figure out what Alphonse's was.

Everyone. It may take him a while to know what it is, but everyone loses something. There's never been an exception.
