[ Just as expected, she dwells on this for some time. They haven't spoken in months and had things not ended up this way, she would have kept ceased communications. There isn't much anger she holds toward the other woman anymore, but there is a severe lack of trust. For Kate, if she could not trust someone or they didn't fit her standards as reliable, she dropped them, no matter how guilty or guiltless she felt about it.

But to not say anything would be cruel and nobody deserves that. While she doesn't consider her a friend anymore, she's still an ally. ]

[ Kate abhors using those words for this filter. Time to check in on everyone, though. ]

How are you all doing?

[ If you're in the clinic, holla. ]


[ And it should not come as too much of a surprise, but Kate leaves out a filter to her own friends. At least for now. She's tired and has to deal with Stephanie soon, so she wants to be completely prepared for whatever is to come. She doesn't mean to make anyone worry.

With some effort, she manages to sit up on her bed. She's currently in the clinic, much to her chagrin. Never has she liked being stuck on bed rest and being made to feel so helpless, frustrated and tired. It makes her feel like a victim, something she's always hated since the time she was a child. Even knowing the clinic staff were just doing their job, it makes her feel petty.

Now? She feels restless. She pours through the journal for details on what's happened in the castle during the days she was stuck elsewhere, yet there's nothing that really explains what exactly happened. As usual, there's no reason. There's never a reason.

She shouldn't waste any energy feeling so angry about this. ]

[Steve goes for a smile as he heads in.] Hey. I brought you flowers.

[gevurah]

[ It's touching, if slightly amusing, but she remembers Steve is from an entirely different era. Not that flowers are no longer a custom in 2012, but it's like he walked straight out of a history book. ]

That's kind of you. [ A pause. ] How've you been?

[valuedstrength]

[Steve sort of shrugs and thinks of a good non answer as he goes to set down the flowers and take a seat.]

I've had better weeks. How about you?

[gevurah]

You and I both then.

[ Even if Steve is aware of the extent of her injuries, her expression never betrays the aching pain she still in her joints and sting in her side. ]

[Steve frowns. It's not like he was expecting a different answer, but what he has to say might not help Kate feel any better. Steve's not sure how close they are.]

Bucky left while you were gone.

[gevurah]

[ She pauses, realizing what that means for Steve. ]

I'm sorry to hear it, Steve.

[ He was a strange person to her, but a soldier nonetheless. ]

You alright?

[valuedstrength]

Yeah. It's just... bad timing. [He rubs his face.] I'll see him again when I get back there.

[gevurah]

You will. [ She affirms. ] It's not easy, I know. This place doesn't have a good sense of timing.

[valuedstrength]

It's not all bad. We got you and everyone else back. It's good to see that actually worked out. I gotta admit when I started drawing things I felt a little desperate.

[gevurah]

It came in handy. [ For the most part. ] Thanks, by the way.

[valuedstrength]

[He shakes his head.] We all did our part. I'm just happy you made it out.

[gevurah]

I also mean for helping me to the clinic. [ It's not easy to say, but every word is genuine. ]

[valuedstrength]

[Since he can't really weasel his way out of that one easily so he doesn't try it.]

... You're welcome. How long are you in for?

[gevurah]

A couple of days. I honestly don't like being made to stay still for long periods of time.

[valuedstrength]

Can't say I do either. [He has to hand it to Kate. He'd have already checked out by now.]

It's worth it if you get better faster I guess.

[gevurah]

Might be best if I ask one of the healers to do it.

[valuedstrength]

Are they a special type of doctor? [Oddly enough this one hasn't come up for him yet.]

[gevurah]

[ Vaguely surprised. ]

They use magic or some sort of ability to speed up the healing process.

[valuedstrength]

[Let him wrap his head around that one.] ... That's neat. [And done.]

[gevurah]

You sound skeptical.

[valuedstrength]

[He shakes his head.] I've heard of stranger things since I arrived here. It just hasn't stopped surprising me yet.

[gevurah]

This place will never stop with the surprises.

[valuedstrength]

I'm starting to see that. I just I- all of us are up for it.

[gevurah]

Are you sure you're alright, Steve?

[valuedstrength]

[Steve is tempted to deflect here. He resists since he has known Kate a while. She's a teacher and friend. He hates talking about his own issues though so he can't fully resist making it vague; like what's weighing on his mind is normal.]

... Did you ever know ahead of time things weren't going to work out and there was nothing you can do to change it?
