[ action ] Equestrian Care Class

 [ For anyone who wanted to take the Equestrian Care Class  here at Camp Demi-God - well, you can come and be part of it, but it's starting early. If you called 9 early, which Vanyel really didn't, but he thought he would be kind the first day. 

But just the first day.

He is standing a bit off from the stables beneath the shade of some trees, Yfandes beside him to act as his partner in the demonstration part of the class. If they needed more, well, there was a stable-full of them not a minute walk that way. She had deigned to roll herself in some dirt this morning so her white coat was a bit dusty - all the better for demonstrating, right? And white was such a hard color to get clean again, you know, so perfect practice! 

Vanyel was sitting beneath the tree atop a tack trunk, journal out.]

Attention Equestrian Care Class Students - I hope you all are on your way. You're late in exactly two minutes.

[Beside him, Yfandes let out the horse equivalent of a laugh.]

_{[He can tell, and he nods, Yfandes bobbing her head.]}

They are doing fine. And I don't worry about them mistreating her - she'll let them know.

_{[He paused for a minute and chuckled.]}

She says a lady would never stand for disrespect.

It's okay, you don't have to translate. I already understand.

_{[Yfandes is no ordinary 'horse', but sure, you keep thinking that.]}

Well, our first student. Welcome. My name is Vanyel Ashkevron, and I will be your instructor. This is my Companion and my demonstration helper, Yfandes.

[and leaning against the fence is a young woman with familiar flowing, starry hair. She's definitely not paying attention to the lecture.

There's a slight look of disbelief on her face. Isn't this rather demeaning, Yfandes?]

_{[Vanyel's brow rose and furrowed.]}

You are a mind speaker? Yfandes, were you mind-speaking to him?

_{[Yfandes was not, technically speaking, a horse. She only had the form of one, and rarely mind-spoke to anyone but him and the ponies like Luna and Fluttershy. But, perhaps this boy could pick up on her words?]}

I'm Stiles. Hellow, Yfandes. Nice to... meet you in person?

<sub>[He notices and smiles, nodding to her, figuring this might be Luna with that hair. He had met Fluttershy the other day.

And no, it wasn't. She had offered, and if she could teach young ones to properly care for regular horses, then all the better. To many didn't know how to anyways, and she did so enjoy getting brushed. It was wonderful.]</sub>

All right, now that we have the upper body, we're going to go through the parts of the leg and hoof - pay close attention to those, as that is where your horse can most easily get themselves injured.

_{{Yfandes bobbed her head at Stiles in greeting as well, tail swishing.]}

So! Where do we start?

Well, why don't we start at the head and work our way down? I'll just do basic areas you'll need to know.

Umm. I can't read minds or anything. I just understand horses.

[imalwaysright]

_{[Well... hmm, how odd. He looked to Yfandes, who turned her head to Percy and cocked it slightly in curiosity.]}

A helpful gift, or at least it would be in our time. But regular horses are so terribly dull compared to us Companions.

_{[Vanyel snorted in a chuckle at that.]}

_{[He motioned him forward, Yfandes lowering her head slightly so Stiles could see better as Vanyel touched each spot gently, working his way over her head and neck.]}

Muzzle, chin and jaw, cheek, brow-ridge, forelock, ears, and there are several things here, but you will be fine calling it her neck. It should be noted that a horse's mane does not have nerve-endings, but they can still feel pressure when you tug and it can hurt them, so he careful when grooming the mane.

Careful grooming. Got it. [He's clearly paying attention to the whole thing though.

Not everyone can do it. It's a blessing of Poseidon.

_{[Good. He likes you already. He moves down to her chest.]}

This area is her chest, but if you slid back here to between her legs and back to almost her groin, it is considered her barrel. Along the time is her spine, and this large section of muscle -

_{[He patted her rump.]}

Is her hindquarters. Her tail, unlike her mane, does have nerve-endings up near the bone, so be careful when grooming close to there.

Poseidon... he is the water god, right?

_{[Vanyel was still a bit confused by this Pantheon he was being presented with, especially since he was the son of..]}

::Zeus, Vanyel. They say you are claimed by Zeus.::

The sea, actually. The Stormbringer, father of horses... All that.

::Father of the horses and he also rules the sea? A bit odd, considering we're land locked creatures.::

_{[Vanyel had nothing to add so he nodded his own amusement at this strange tale, but didn't argue it either. Gods were strange things.}

I suppose you know more about the Pantheon then than I do.
