Chapter Four- The Complaint of Chaucer to his Glass

Hello. My name is Geoffrey Chaucer. I’m conducting a survey of sorts, and I was hoping you would participate. I would just like to know your name and age. I’d also like to know about your stay at Paradisa.

Pardon me, sir. I wonder if you could conduct your experiments and other loud activities at a more decent time. It has come to my attention that you’re keeping other residents up at night.

[He writes the following slowly, frustrated and bored.]
To you, my friends, I do apply
For an answer to my cry.
Does not the wine taste awry?
I drink and drink, yet no ill effect
Happens that I can detect.
Sober as the day I was born,
I raise my tasteless glass, and mourn.

This castle seems to have done me in,
For it will not allow me a single sin
I know I shall be quite forlorn
If I am forced into celibacy in the morn.

[Geoff is sitting in the library, writing the above poem, and working on other writing. He’s a bit annoying, knocking his foot against the table, ripping up parchment and throwing it to the side, and muttering to himself. He’s also a tad grouchy today. He’s been drinking to control the withdrawal symptoms from not gambling. He has a glass of wine next to him that he keeps testing every few minutes, making faces whenever he does. ]

Oh, I see. That's a very long time to be away from the castle. Are you happy you're back?

Yes. My fiance is still here. [She smiles gently.] I would have missed him terribly if the castle hadn't erased all my memories and made me think I had lived in Paris all my life...

[thetrudger]

Your fiance? Congratulations, my lady!

[He gives her a genuine smile.] When are the nuptials?

[heal_theworld]

Ah...we're not sure. [It's very complicated, Geoffrey.] You'd never know, though, since the Castle took my engagement ring when I got back from paris.

[thetrudger]

Oh...

[He looks down at her hand sadly.] 'Tis a very cruel loss.

It's not as bad as you might think. I can just get a new ring, and make new memories with it! [Maybe a new ring is for the better. The other one had some bad memories tied to it.]

[He smiles warmly.] Yes, of course. That is always true.

May I ask who the lucky man is?

Bucky would be laughing so hard. SO HARD.

Yuan Ka-Fei. I'm not sure if you've met him. But you can't miss him, he has blue hair. And a cape. And a tendency to be dramatic. [She giggles.]

[thetrudger]

Hm. No, I have not met him. [He chuckles with her.] He does sound like an interesting fellow. And any man lucky enough to be engaged to such a dazzling creature such as yourself must be quite amiable and good indeed.

[She laughs at that.] I am not...'dazzling.'
