[There are some dainty sniffles coming from the journal today, as if they came from someone who had just begun to recover from a cry, and not even the good kind of cry that makes you feel better. A couple cake batter fingerprints appear, and then are hastily wiped away. That only smudges the paper.]

Oh...I'm sorry about that, I...

[A pause. Jane blows her nose.]

I was...cleaning up a mess...in the kitchen. I'm really sorry about all of that batter...in the sink...that's my fault...!

[Oh sugar, her voice is cracking. Better make this quick.]

I think I'm...ready to admit to my loss...

All of you were right. I'm sorry I was so prickly about it before.

[She blows her nose and sniffles again.]

[It's quiet for a little bit on this side.]

I'm so sorry, Jane.

[cyan_maid]

I-It's alright. You didn't do anything.

I just...I feel awful. I didn't listen to anyone when they tried to talk some sense into me, and then I tried literally everything I could think of to make a cake, and all the ingredients have gone to waste, and...

[Okay, no, reign it in, Jane, don't start crying again!]

But it's okay! These losses can be confusing and sometimes not even obvious. I didn't know what mine was for a while...

And it's not fair for the castle to take away something precious to us.

[She's sniffling a whole lot over here. A couple teardrops fall on the journal page and you can see them streak across as she wipes them away.

She'd ask about your loss, but she'd rather not make anyone else upset about things they can't change.]

No. No, it isn't fair.

[ Oh, wow... this has really upset Jane. She wonders if she would have reacted the same if she couldn't bake something, given how important learning to be better at it is to her. ]

Are you going to be alright? It's okay to say you're sad.

I think I will be. Eventually.

[One more sniffle.] Thank you.

Don't worry, I'll talk to Colette-chan and we'll find you something you can do at the baking club! After all, we can't say no to help!

Are she and you in charge?

Mm! Colette Brunel is her name.

Well... I think Colette-chan is more of the leader! We haven't done much yet with the club...

I've been talking with a Colette today! Unless there are two Colettes, I think yours and mine are one in the same!

You know - people have been giving me a lot of ideas about what to do to make up for my loss, and one of them was to somehow teach others how to bake. Perhaps the club could do something like that?

[amiable]

[ A pause. ]

Yeah, that's her!

Mm! It looks like a lot of the other members don't know how to bake, so I was hoping the people who do know could show them!

[cyan_maid]

I think I might be able to demonstrate specific steps, so long as I don't actually bake anything!

Gosh, I - I feel so much better just thinking about it!

I'm glad! Even if... you can't bake something, you still have a gift to show others what you have learned!

[She'd hug you through the journal if that was a thing she could do!]

And maybe we'll need a taste tester!

Oh, I'd be happy to do that, but then again, I don't know who wouldn't be happy to taste cake!

A lot of people just wanted to be taste testers at first... [ What lazy bums. ]

JUST taste-testers? But half of the fun is making the food yourself.

A lot of people seem to just wish up food here. Even though we have a big kitchen to cook!

Really?

I mean, I could understand wishing for food if you weren't feeling well enough to make it or for other circumstances, but it seems ridiculous to wish for it all the time!
