So I've been thinking lately. As in ever since the whole Mirrorworld revelation came to light. It's one thing to suspect what this castle's getting out of us living here, but hearing it that way... Well, let's just say I've got an oversized case of the heebie jeebies. Not for us, so much as for the fact that we're trying to raise a kid here and-- [deep breath now] Smallville, I want to move.

Inclement weather would probably be a danger no matter what transportation we took.

That's true, though to an extent it can be prepared for with careful planning. We'll of course have to pack carefully for any journey of length.

I only hope it doesn't turn out to be longer than we were hoping for. Chris isn't too happy about his "mommy" running off without him, even if Clark's staying.

Well, as I understand it, we're planning for it to take quite some time; that is, that we're already to have a buffer period. If the unexpected happens, we'll see what we can do about it.

Can he not come along?

He could. But he's only a child and out there he'd be without his powers. I don't think he's ever had to be before. And Clark can always do more good here than he could out there. He sees it as his responsibility.

Ah, is he not trained for such a journey? Sometimes it is difficult to remember that others don't come from a culture bound by the same traveling philosophy as my own. The slogan of our prevailing religion is "Go on a journey".

I'm sure he'd like me to believe he was trained for a journey, but that's not really our culture. I still don't like him crossing the street without someone around.

That is a bit young, though an excellent time to learn. Have you considered smaller camping trips within the powered zone?

Not a bad idea, really. It might at least make him feel less left out.

And it would give him some time alone with the two of you, far enough away from the castle to be adventurous.

Er, I am only twenty-eight, you know. But the castle gave me a child during its recent little game, if that's what you mean.

Plenty of people have kids by the time they're 28. I've never even really thought to ask Chris how old Clark and I are when we end up adopting him, but... I'm just grateful he doesn't seem to think we're strangers just because he was one to us when he showed up.

Ah, well, if it's adoption I'd find that much more likely. [Not...going to get into the convoluted mess that is being a half-elf among humans right now.] Though in that case, a more accurate answer would be that I raised my younger brother, of whom the castle has taken my memory.

I'm sorry. Not that... you know what you're missing, I know how that goes. But I raised my younger sister, so I know how much that stuff matters.

It's not quite as awkward when he's not here, though I suppose that means I do know what it feels like to suddenly be responsible for someone you've not met before! I'm told I at least retain some instinct for it.

Maybe that's why it hasn't been a total culture shock playing Mom to Chris either. Not that I know what I'm doing 9 times out of ten.

Anyways, I do plan on going on this trip, especially since the Hostiles aren't running around out there right now. Theoretically.

I'm glad to hear it. Though of course we'll want to prepare ourselves as if they are out there. I do wish we had more information on their movements from a reliable source.

I'm trying to decide if it's worth trying to get in touch with Reno again. She was pretty chatty last time I talked to her.

She told me she'd been in Libet before it died. It sounds like there used to be some movement between castles. And that what happened with us getting new journals wasn't a new phenomena.

Now that is useful information. Was that the castle that originally called her from home, did she say? Or the others such as John Hammond, perhaps?

No, that was Paradisa, as far as she seems to tell it. But they would visit.
